EXCEPTIONAL!,
By Traveler Tess (TEXAS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Though None Go with Me (Hardcover)
I finished Though None Go With Me last night in the midst of a bucket of tears. In the last year, I have probably read at least 20 books, and this is by far the best that I've read. It comes across as biographical, taking us from Elizabeth's birth to her 65th birthday. She's dedicated her life "to an experiment in obedience to God," and this is reflected through out the book in every joy and trial. The dialog is excellent, and it gave me the feeling that I was right there watching the volley of words. On numerous occasions, Jenkins writes out the prayers that Elizabeth is lifting to the throne room of grace, and I found myself drawn into these private moments between this character and God. Elizabeth has inspired me and challenged me in my own walk with the Lord. If you can read only one book, this should be it.

Remarkable,

This review is from: Though None Go with Me (Audio Cassette)
This book will change your life, I promise. Even if you are not a Christian, you will be moved by the classic, universal literary structure of a heroine who decides to be a better person, experiences nothing but hardship because of it, but ultimately finds reward (think Jerry Maguire). If you are already a Christian, you will be inspired to even more passion in your faith.Aside from that, it's some of Jenkins' best work ever. I was in tears by the third chapter (and I'm a guy) and could barely see the pages at the end. I've heard that a movie is being discussed; I can only hope.

This book has made an incredible impact on my life, it completely changes your focus on why you are handed lifes challenges. Elizabeth, the main character remains a true believer in God, no matter what crises arise, and many do. If you liked the Left Behind series, This will definately spark your interest! A MUST READ!

In the vein of Catherine Marshall's Christy,
This review is from: Though None Go with Me (Hardcover)
Though None Go With Me is a book that is not soon forgotten. I found myself thinking about the characters all week long. If you've ever wondered why Christians sometimes seem to suffer even more than unbelievers, this book offers a hopeful look at why. My own faith was strengthened as I walked with Elisabeth through the trials of her life. A book that is written with the classic literary quality of Catherine Marshall's Christy, Though None Go With Me is peopled with wonderful, timeless characters. One of the best books I've read in years.

Spiritually Motivating!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Though None Go with Me (Hardcover)
"Though None Go With Me" is a spiritually motivating novel by Jerry Jenkins, portraying one American woman's commitment to live her life in obedience to God regardless of the cost. Her trials are extreme, including the deaths of all of her immediate family members, a wayward child, multiple illnesses, being misunderstood and judged by those in the body of Christ, World War I, The great Depression and World War II. She honestly struggles with her own faith and sin, but turns to God who forgives her and renews her strength. The line that ministered to me the most was "We're saved by the grace of God, Elisabeth. Living Godly is noble. But don't do it for any reason other than to thank God for the gift of grace. Otherwise, you're still trying to earn his favor." (pg. 20). It helped me to settle some of my ongoing questions concerning grace versus works. God blesses her richly in the end. Jenkins skillfully interweaves scripture and traditional hymns of the faith that bring glory to God, especially powerful if one is familiar with them. The book is a page turner, hard to put down. It dispells the common myth that if you turn your life over to God, everything is going to be just great. It hit home for me and encouraged me to keep turning to God, and God alone, regardless. I highly recommend it.

AMAZING!,

This review is from: Though None Go with Me (Hardcover)
I got this book from my parents from Valentine's Day. I refused to read it until I'd finished another book, a Shakespeare play required for a test I would soon, exercising a rare display of discipline. I finally got through the other book and, eager to begin some "light reading", started reading the book yesterday around noon. By 5:00, I had the entire book finished. It was anything but light reading, not in the sense that it was difficult or by any means a chore, but it was the type of book that, while entertaining, caused you to carefully consider your life choices and your commitment to the Lord. After reading this book, I was left with a renewed fire and a new dedication for the future. I seriously recommend this book. I seriously doubt that there is a fiction book on the market today of this caliber.

Truly Inspirational,

This book has been an inspiration to me and my walk with Christ. It has inspired me to want to dig deeper in the Bible and to want to get to know Him so much more. Elisabeth demonstrates how we are to depend upon God in all our struggles. Yes, at times she didn't, but she always looked to Him to see what He was teaching her through every trial in her life. He is our strong-hold and she had to depend on Him and trust Him. Her commitment was just amazing and we should all strive to be molded like Christ.

This book is the best book I have read in a long time. Elisabeth was a great role model for me (a 13 year old girl). The way she folowed God and gave her childrens lifes to God, was a remminder to me to always trust in him. The book was also so sad that at times I could'nt stand it , but it strengtned me in my personal realationship with God. i do'nt think I could ever put into words what a great books this was( such a change from the Left Behind series)! If ever avaliable I would love to read another book likes this !

This is quite possible THE best book I have ever read. I chose to read this book because I enjoy the Left Behind series which Jerry Jenkins co-authors. Dare I say I like it better than Left Behind? I don't know, but this book is truly an inspiration.Never has a book made me cry, but this one did...four times. I would read it at night in bed and my eyes would be begging for sleep but my brain was telling me to read, read, read! A MUST READ!

A Gripping Account of a True Disciple,
By
This review is from: Though None Go with Me (Hardcover)
Jerry Jenkins mastery of words and SCripture again come alive in this moving narrative of a committed woman's life. Beginning with a committment to God in her teens and ending with her committment to the same God as a senior citizen, "Though None Go With Me" tells the story of a modern-day, female Job. Christians who feel as though life in Christ should be one big beach need to read this novel. It's not your typical "happily ever after" tome. It recounts over and over again a woman's suffering, God's gentle hand, and his overwhelming grace. Jenkin's novels flow from the heart and speak directly to the Christian reader. He isn't overbearing in his descriptive approach, yet he colors the pages with timely adjectives and lively verbs. Jenkins is a great and gifted writer for this generation of Christians. "Though None Go With Me" is just another example of his great work. |
