It was quite a surprise to stumble upon this little wonder of a book one day on Amazon. This book is a great introduction to many fields of science and is written in a very concise manner yet without leaving out any pertinent details. If anyone is considering reading the works of Dawkins, Pinker, Dennett and Hitchens, but might be intimidated by the sheer wealth of information that those authors pass per paragraph, this is the perfect gateway experience for you.
Sternberg, a relatively unknown author so far, guides and leads the reader in the graceful manner of an experienced instructor. Starting with a brief yet insightful introduction to evolution onto very detailed illustrations of neuroscience and psychology, the reader never feels exhausted or bored.
I have recommended this book to a few teenagers and they were able to understand and appreciate the content enough to move onto to the works of the aforementioned authors in this review. A few of my friends in their thirties also enjoyed this quick read and have also moved onto reading the likes of Dawkins.
Whether Sternberg decides to continue to provide scientific literature that is extremely accessible, or to give us a book in another genre, it would be a gift worthy for any reader regardless of their age, background, or disposition.
A truly wonderful and unexpected surprise that I can easily recommend for anyone. The God DelusionThe Ancestor's Tale: A Pilgrimage to the Dawn of Evolution
