5.0 out of 5 stars One of the few inexpensive biofeedback units, August 10, 2006

This review is from: ThoughtStream Portable Biofeedback Device with Mind Games Software & Serial Cable (Health and Beauty)
As I put in the title, there aren't many portable biofeedback available (price-wise) to average users.
This unit uses GSR technology for the sensor: Galvanic Skin Resistance, which uses the fact that your skin changes electrical resistance as you relax. To be safe for the user, it is only battery powered.
You attach the sensor to the palm and start the unit - it "calibrates" for the session by reading your initial resistance.
Then, you could see how you relax on some 8 LEDs which gradually turn from red to green (or the other way around if you become more stressed), or through headphones - the tone changes to deeper as you relax.
It comes with a "Mental Games" software, where you connect the unit to the PC and the game (rather primitive actually) adjusts depending on how you relax. Very primitive actually, but is in fact a suite of training modules for you to get used to be relax while doing activities.
As a nice bonus, the unit can be connected to a Proteus Light and Sound machine, so that the Proteus' session could be adjusted depeding on the relaxation sensor's input.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtstream portable biofeedback device, June 26, 2010

This review is from: ThoughtStream Portable Biofeedback Device with Mind Games Software & Serial Cable (Health and Beauty)
Can be used stand-alone or interfaced to Proteus meditation stimulator to provide meditator with brain-state information to guage depth-of-state. Meditators attempt to achieve transition from normal Beta state to Alpha, Theta, and Delta states. Unless one is very experienced, it may be difficult to make an assessment as to how successful a session is. By measuring galvanometric skin condition via a surface-contact sensor, Thoughtstream provides a very sensitive measure. When interfaced witht the Mindplace Proteus stimulation unit, it actively controls the stimulation process to pursue deeper states of meditation. The company is soon releasing a new version that will interface with the Procyon stimulation unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars GSR biofeedback techniques, November 15, 2008
This review is from: ThoughtStream Portable Biofeedback Device with Mind Games Software & Serial Cable (Health and Beauty)
I have used the Thought Stream GSR biofeedback device for helping students achieve relaxed concentration in school. I also used the Thoughtstream to help game players improve manuel dexterity and eye hand dexterity. For instance before playing a game of darts. There are allot of GSR games to chose from as well as a pretty sensitive GSR graph. Amongst the most sensitive in the field. I published a video of techniques to improve relaxed concentration using GSR. The videi is with Amazon.com too. " Guide to GSR Biofeedback Techniques for the Natural ADHD Practitioner". I also published BEING IN CONTROL: Natural Solutions for ADHD , Dyslexia and Test Anxiety. I used the Thought Stream for many years and this GSR device helped me develop the videos and techniques. I also found it very safe and fun to use. Being in Control: Natural Techniques for Increasing Your Potential and Creativity for Success in School A guide for GSR biofeedback techniques for the natural ADHD practitioner
