About the Author

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci : (April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519) was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. His genius, perhaps more than that of any other figure, epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal. Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the Renaissance Man, a man of "unquenchable curiosity" and "feverishly inventive imagination". He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived. According to art historian Helen Gardner, the scope and depth of his interests were without precedent and "his mind and personality seem to us superhuman, the man himself mysterious and remote". Marco Rosci states that while there is much speculation about Leonardo, his vision of the world is essentially logical rather than mysterious, and that the empirical methods he employed were unusual for his time.

Who isn't impressed with the life and accomplishments of the great Leonardo Davinci?? This book is filled with his words, which is enough by itself to make the work interesting. His knowledge of so many things was very impressive, especially considering the time he lived. There was so much ignorance in that time, but Leonardo required more evidence than most before he bought into what anyone was "selling". He was much more than a great fine artist, and some of the multi-dimensional talent that he had can be gleaned from the pages in this book. Sometimes tedious, but often compelling and stimulating, it is a book worth reading.

It was interesting for me to realze that nothing is really original about the creative process. I know that beauty cannot be created by people, but merely coppied. As Leo says "painting is the higher art because your hands stay clean, you can wear clean clothes and drink wine with your friends as you create the next last supper.

Lacks some information. It could be better, but among the existing works on Leonardo, this is one of the best, if not the best.

Sound words of advice for everyone. A little choppy in the formatting, but not going to complain as it was free!

While Leonardo would have been a few hasty steps in front of the warlock police in another hundred and a half years after his death, we are all lucky that he lived when he did. Other individuals before him certainly broke ground in some of the subjects that were his interests, but none had likely sudied in such depth of range and width of scope. Archimedes was probably closest in intellect and unfortunately, some of his important work was lost in the sacking of Alexandria, but most of Leonardo's is still available for the modern thinking person to study and enjoy. To me, this book was a pleasant surprise because he was even a master at recording his thoughts in the form of words. To call it a good read, shows even I can be a master----of understatement, that is.

Leonardo was a deep thinker who was interested in almost everything. His comments on different subjects are FASCINATING and demonstrate how the mind of this genius operated.
