Book Description

June 2001
A selection of the best columns written over the past three years in a continuing series for The Pacifica Tribune, Pacifica, CA. These columns touch on topics that concern us all: women’s potential in our changing world, the idiosyncrasies of society and the challenges created by advancing years. Each topic is illustrated with a touch of nostalgia addressed with humor in a vignette drawn from the author’s checkered past.

Review

"...For animal lovers, the stories are endearing; for people lovers, a slice of Americana." -- Mildred Owen, Artistic Director, Pacifica Performances

"Lynn Ruth Miller's writing reminds us to embrace our humanity, foibles and all!" -- Anny Cleven, Borders Northern California

"Something for everyone in these beautifully written and thoughtful vignettes." -- Dianne Nicolini, Middays on Classical 102.1 KDFC.

About the Author

Lynn Ruth Miller has been published in various fields for over thirty years. She often deals with feminist issues and has been featured on interview shows and adult education settings throughout the country. Her writing appeals to readers who enjoy Laurie Colwin for her ethnic flavor and commentary on the idiosyncrasies of modern life and Anne Tyler for her slightly out of sync frame of reference.

Her first published book was Starving Hearts, an autobiographical novel of life in the fifties and her successful struggle with anorexia and bulimia. It was published May, 2000 and its second edition was released January, 2001

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully funny and insightful, June 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Thoughts While Walking the Dog (Paperback)
Thoughts While Walking the Dog is the kind of enchanting book you'll want to read several times and then keep close by, so that every now and again you can reread one or two of the essays and rejoice in the quirkiness and sad/funny wonders of life..and of Lynn Ruth Miller, an original in a world that badly needs originals. Who else but Lynn Ruth Miller could write the following (a clerk has just offered her a senior discount): "Now I know very well that true beauty resides in your heart and externals are so superficial that every intelligent person immediately ignores them. I firmly believe this WHEN I AM DISCUSSING SOMEONE ELSE." Women will chuckle and perhaps sometimes cry while reading this collection of straight-talking yet subtle renditions of life in our times. Miller is a writer who knows how to touch people's hearts -- and leave her mark on them forever. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Gifted, Honest and Warm-hearted Writer., June 15, 2003
This review is from: Thoughts While Walking the Dog (Paperback)
Lynn Ruth Miller has the ability to weave magic with her words. She enchants her readers with a positive attitude along with a general joy in the very art of being. Lynn Ruth shares her wisdom in a manner that makes it accessible to all comers. Her look at life is realistic and yet full of hope. If there is a positive side to any situation, she will find it and help you to see it as well. Since reading her book, I find myself reaching for it whenever I am having a particularly difficult day or a sad moment. As I read her words and stories, the veil of melancholy lifts and a smile begins to spread across my lips. I urge anyone who occasionally needs to see the positive side of life in all its simple splendor to spend a bit of time with Lynn Ruth Miller. You will find it is a marvelous investmet.

Great book for curling up with on a rainy afternoon. Short, humerous stories that will make you smile. This book will have you recalling wonderful memories of your own life while giving you a "warm and fuzzy" feeling. I can't wait to read "More Thoughts While Walking the Dog"
