Book Description

November 30, 2006
Barrett Greer has always longed for the glamour of Hollywood. Unfortunately, she's stuck at a boring job, engaged to a man she doesn't know if she loves, and is unsatisfied with her hum-drum life. When Barrett runs into pop starlet Kat Savage at the convenience store, her wish to have a rich-and-famous best friend comes true. She soon discovers, though, if the grass is really greener in Hollywood.

More About the Author

A Thousand Dollars for a Kiss offers a priceless'and hilarious--look
at what can lie beneath the glitz and glamour of celebrity. Cindy
Bokma infuses this "be careful what you wish for" tale with great
energy, humor, and sharp, witty social observation.

--Gayle Brandeis, author of Fruitflesh: Seeds of Inspiration for Women Who Write, The Book of Dead Birds, and Self Storage

" A Thousand Dollars for a Kiss is a biting piece of social satire about our obsession with celebrity culture, cleverly cloaked in the perfume-scented guise of 'chick lit.' I practically inhaled the story and loved how Bokma seamlessly wove a morality tale into the lighthearted, fast-paced narrative. Bokma's writing is funny, smart, and incisive, and I didn't want the book to end!"

---Jen Lancaster, author of Bitter is the New Black

A Thousand Dollars For A KIss is a fun, funny, and thoughtful novel. Barrett Greer is one of a kind, and true-to-life. What a pleasure to live in her world for a little while.

-- Laura Dave, author of LONDON IS THE BEST CITY IN AMERICA

"A superficial, celebrity-obsessed heroine who will have you laughing out loud and cheering on her transformation."

---Robyn Harding, author of The Journal of Mortifying Moments and The Secret Desires of a Soccer Mom

"What seems to start out as a standard, although engaging, story of girl-meets-Hollywood ends up surprisingly real and a little bit dark. There had better be a sequel -- I have to know what happens to these characters next."

- Amy DeZellar, author of Dating Amy

2.0 out of 5 stars Great for gossip lovers, story a little thin., November 21, 2008
This review is from: A Thousand Dollars For A Kiss (Paperback)
I will wholeheartedly admit my addiction to gossip sites such as Perez Hilton and Dlisted. I was also raised on a steady diet of Star magazine and Entertainment Tonight. However, as much as I loved the allusion to Britney Spears and K-Fed, I was really surprised by the poor editing of the book. From the formatting errors on the first page to just bad grammar...I was a little embarrassed for the author. The story itself was a thin; the characters were one dimensional, storylines seemed to disappear (hello, Arvis? Are you there?). I wanted to love the protagonist, but at times she was such an idiot I wanted to kick her.

But...and there is a big but here....the author is from Jersey, loves gossip and she is creative enough....so I'll probably buy more of her books for the mindless entertainment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat pleased, March 8, 2007
By
This review is from: A Thousand Dollars For A Kiss (Paperback)
I was expecting a lot from this book because it was highly recommended by Jen Lancaster. I have to say I was disappointed in the ending. There was a lot of character development which I liked but I felt the ending was rushed. It was an easy read but it was not worth paying full price for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining & humorous look at celebrity life - Well written!, December 11, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: A Thousand Dollars For A Kiss (Paperback)
I was lucky to get a sneak peek and I love it- laughed all the way through. The character of Kat is very similar to a certain famous pop star in real life, was she inspired by Britney Spears?

This book would make a fun movie- I can totally see Barrett, Kat and Arvis all so clearly, not to mention the hunky Marco Hart. I hear there is going to be a sequel and I will be first in line to buy a copy. Well done! I recommend this debut novel to those who know the author from her famous celebrity gossip blog and to those looking for an entertaining, humorous, satirical look at Hollywood life.
