More About the Author

Rabbi Seymour Rossel is the author of thirty-four books including "The Essential Jewish Stories," "The Torah: Portion-by-Portion," "A Child's Bible" (2 vols.), "A Thousand and One Chickens," and "Bible Dreams: The Spiritual Quest." In addition, Seymour has edited nearly 300 books, having worked with many of the most distinguished Jewish authors of our times. His most recent book "The Essential Jewish Stories" grew organically as he culled and re-imagined Jewish stories that he has been telling and retelling for more than forty years.
Seymour is currently the Director of Pathways Foundation and CEO of Rossel Books. He lectures regularly at the venerable Women's Institute of Houston (www.wih.org).
Seymour formerly served the Jewish Reform movement in a number of national positions: as Director of the URJ Press, Director of the URJ Department of Education, Director of the Commission on Reform Jewish Education, and Dean of the School of Education of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, NY. For many years, he served the national boards of the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE), the Jewish Book Council, and the National Association of Temple Educators. He was Headmaster of Solomon Schechter Academy of Dallas, TX; Executive Vice President of Behrman House; and Director of Education for Temple Shalom of Dallas, TX, and Temple Beth El of Chappaqua, NY. Seymour was a founding member of CAJE and served as Chairperson for two international conferences, CAJE 13 and CAJE 21, both held at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Recently, he served as the Rabbi for Congregation Jewish Community North in Spring, Texas.
As speaker, author, and editor, Seymour is listed in "Who's Who in the Eastern States," "Contemporary Authors," "The International Authors and Writers Who's Who," as well as "Who's Who in World Jewry." He was prominently featured in Charles A. Madison's book, "Jewish Publishing in America" and he holds the "Bonei HaNegev" award presented by Israel Bonds for excellence in Jewish Education. He was honored to serve as an ex-officio member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis.
Seymour lectures widely on Jewish tories and storytelling, Bible, Jewish history, education, and values; and conducts teacher, board, and congregational workshops and retreats in communities throughout North America.
His web site, which includes two free on-line books, is accessible at www.Rossel.net
