A Journey Into Deep Space....,
By
This review is from: Thousand Star (Audio CD)
Mankind has always been fascinated by space & time and what's in between. That's no news to anyone, but what IS news is this. To make all these fascinations come true, you need a tool, you need 'A Thousand Star'. This new space music CD really takes you on an a completely new level of awareness & imagination. All tracks on this CD is simply amazing!.
The opening track 'A Thousand Star' evolves slowly with light ethereal 'voices' that washes over you as the infinity of space makes it appearance around you with its spacious sound and feel. This would be a excellent opening track for a Planetarium show!. Let's take-off. 'Flow of Times Arrow' comes next and moves along in a even slower pace but with highly effective sounds that literarily makes you feel as if you were orbiting in space, beyond your imagination. This is one of those tracks that appeals to me the most, with its distinctive 'space feel' that you simply can't escape. The track 'Belle E'Pogue' starts off with some piano sounds and later the feeling of 'emptiness of space' comes creeping up on me. Though, after a while things brightens up a bit as if I were approaching a new planet in another galaxy. This track seem to tell a tale of discovery. At least that's how I feel. Another winning track!. The track 'The Visionary' is a bit darker but it also have some bright moments. This particular track is another winner that would have to be heard in a Planetarium, as the narrator there is telling the story of 'the birth of the Universe' or a similar story. As the CD takes us deeper into space we get to hear 'Course Projection On Tactical'. A track that contains the most haunting moments on the disc. While listening, it makes me imagine I approach a planet of species that looks threatening to begin with, but after a visit on their planet they greet me and shares their secrets with me. One of the aliens points it's finger on my shuttle and walks aboard. E.T anyone? After the experience with the Aliens, I take off again along with the track 'Enroute To Delta Pavonis'. This track reminds me of a track from 'Planetary Chronicles Vol.II', it has that special feeling of hope, happiness and sadness to it. A very emotional piece and it's also my favorite track on this CD. I just love the way Jonn Serrie makes use of the synthesizers on this one. I envision this track is about trying to get back home to earth with the Alien aboard my ship, but a problem occurs along the way and I try to get in touch with my fellow space travelers, but it all fails, making me sense danger ahead. The last track 'Nostalgia For Infinity' is another highly effective & innovative one. It continues the story of me being chased on my way home to earth by Alien spacecrafts, but as I enter hyperspace, they loose track of me, and I am finally alone in the vast emptiness of space again on my way back home to earth...with this unknown species with me. It all feels so surreal, as if in a dream, but I know it wasn't!. 'A Thousand Star' is more real than reality!. If space had a soundtrack, it would probably play this CD on repeat!. 5 stars from me!. A sensational release!

I have almost all of Jonn Serrie's albums, going back to "And the Stars Go With You". This album is among his best, if not his best. It is what I consider typical of most of his music-mellow, deeply textured, and (at times) deeply spacey. there are no turn off onto a pop-ish side street like some other of his albums, just Jonn Serrie at his best. This album is very well done, both artistically and technically. Once again, he has reminded me why he is my favorite musician. If you like mellow, highly textured space music, I can confidently and highly recommend this album.

Well, Serrie has failed to disappoint again. Thousand Star has only been on my iPod for less than 12 hours and is already a favorite. The musical imagery is spectacular. This album will be with me while I'm under the stars with my Meade 10" LX200.
Thanks, Jonn. I've been waiting for this one! P.S. I should have known better..... I downloaded this album from iTunes Store because my daughter bought me a gift card from there. They charged me almost $10! Oh, well, it's money well spent, anyway!!

I have a small collection of favorite space music artists but this, plain and simple (IMHO), is Jonn Serrie's best space music album and among the best I've heard in this genre. Get a good set of headphones, relax, and go where his music takes you...on a very pleasant journey no doubt.

Another Serrie Masterpiece,

This is the latest in a long series of Jonn Serrie planetarium masterpieces. Those who make the effort to go out and get this CD will not be disappointed, if what you are seeking is pure undiluted planetarium music. This CD follows in the derivation logically created from the original Serrie release AND THE STARS GO WITH YOU, that came out circa 1987. Like that album which I've had for over 23 years, and its follow-ups like FLIGHTPATH, TINGRI, PLANETARY CHRONICLES Vols 1 and 2, LUMIA NIGHTS and STARGAZER'S JOURNEY, this new CD likewise will never get old. Music as timeless as the stars...

Fantastic!
Serrie's site [...] : The song titles and poem act as a guide as to where and how the voyage unfolds with timing and sound design elements emphasizing direction and place. The album is intended to play as if the listener were taking part in a science fiction novel, told with music and sound design instead of words and pages. . . . That novel is Alastair Reynolds "Revalation Space" sequence. I think I'll re-read the novels, with this as a soundtrack.

'Thousand Star' follows a similar direction Serrie had taken with 'The Stargazer's Journey', in that he presents an opportunity to embark on a sonic voyage into deep space, but this time, according to him, instead of an Earth based view of observing space from a distance, he invites the listening audience to take the voyage with him as it happens.
If you already own 'The Stargazer's Journey', this one will be faintly familiar, but is still fresh enough to be a welcomed addition to any serious collection of ambient, space-themed music. Maybe not quite as mesmerizing as 'And the Stars Go With You', but then few if any are, this CD still stands as a testament to Serrie's ability to produce 'deep space music' that is an elixir for your spirit and medicine for your soul. If you, like me, already own everything this artist has ever done, you won't want to miss this one either. Highly recommended.

I own 7 of Jonn Serrie's albums, and while they are all great, Thousand Star is definitely my favorite. The funny thing is I didn't even know who Jonn Serrie was a year ago, but once I heard his music I was hooked. This album (like his others) really takes you so another place. This is some of the most relaxing music I have had the pleasure of listening to. Jonn, if you are out there reading this, keep cranking out albums like this and I'll keep coming back for more!

I admit I was a little concerned while I anticipated the release of "Thousand Star". I have always been a Jonn Serrie devotee and have purchased every release he has ever produced. I guess, for me at least, it always goes back to "..And The Stars Go With You". Magnificent. OK, I am concerned about EVERY Serrie release because, I guess, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. You know, when the critics start saying "He's gone senile; he's pressing garage onto a CD". Many artists that I love have gone that route, much to my dismay. Jonn remains an enigma. How does he do it? You would figure after all this time something crappy would come out. How many mainstream acts receive "forgiveness" after a hastily produced, commercial, crappy album? Jonn never produces crap. I believe it is beyond his talent level. After listening to this album a number of times, and, of course, looking for the flaws, I find NONE. This man is music genius. This may be, and I am always reticent to admit as an early Jonn Serrie fan, his best release ever. Space musicians, try to catch up. Good luck with that.
