4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Two Best, February 1, 2010

This review is from: Thousand Swords (Audio CD)
I would consider Thousand Swords to be one of the two Graveland albums that are definitely worth owning, the other being Celtic Winter. Of all the albums I have heard by this artist, this one definitely has the least amount of keyboard ambience, and instead relies more fully on straight up guitar riffs and gravelly vocals. I would say because of this that the album more closely resembles the old school Black Metal sound (ala Darkthrone, Mayhem, etc.), but in my opinion this is a very good thing. "The Dark Battlefield" is probably my favourite song on the album, and I would say overall that every track is solid. The subject matter is vehemently anti-Christian, so if that bothers you, I don't know why you would ever consider owning this album in the first place. Depending on which version you come across, you may also find a note in the booklet from Rob Darken that is completely hilarious because of how utterly stupid he sounds. I have no respect for the man as a human being at all; solely as a musician and artist. That said, there's nothing I would consider to be NSBM-like in the music itself, and that's all that matters as far as I am concerned.
