Book Description

The chopper came in full throttle and air skidded to a halt above Baer's stopped vehicles. Two men wearing ski masks, sleeveless bullet-proof vests, and harnesses to keep them from falling out were crouched in the chopper's open door. Both were armed with squad automatic weapons… SAWs like those carried by troops in Iraq.

Oh, God! Jamie!

Nail charged down the granite steps, his hand darting for the Glock at his belt, ignoring the helicopter as his eyes searched for his daughter. Let the bodyguards protect Baer.

The scumbags in the chopper opened fire, the sound of their weapons like the magnified ripping of sailcloth. Stunned silence in the crowd for two or three heartbeats, people trying to digest what was happening. Then panic set in. Hellish screams of terror and tramping feet as people ran over each other in sudden blind flight…

* * *

From the author of previous military and action adventure novels like THE 100TH KILL, DETACHMENT DELTA series and THE RETURN comes Charles W. Sasser's latest speculative political action-adventure thriller ripped from today's headlines and based on actual current events. Police Detective James Nail is wounded and his daughter murdered in an attack that also kills "right-wing" TV personality Jerry Baer. As Nail and Baer's producer, Sharon Lowenthal, team up to track down the shooters, they discover a conspiracy that leads to an international cartel of "One Worlders" and may implicate the President of the United States. Falsely accused of terrorism, they must keep one step ahead of Homeland Security to stay alive, bring down the traitors, and save the nation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Important American Novel Of Our Time. January 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Not since "Atlas Shrugged" have I been so captivated by a novel with political overtones. Sasser typically captures the reader's attention immediately and holds it tightly throughout the main plot and many subplots of his stories. This novel is no different in that respect, but what sets it apart is the potential for his fictional chaos to become fact in the near future. This novel should be a five-alarm to every American who wishes to insure their children and grandchildren inherit the legacy of freedom earned by the blood of our forefathers.

As a Conservative, I very much liked the premise of this novel. It starts out with characters influenced by the policies of a Presidential administration and current Democrat party. However, the alarming and unsettling situations described in the novel quickly escalate from believable to improbable. I understand it is a work of fiction, but with segues between chapters containing news headlines about implemented government policies that would seem to be relevant today, there needed to be better elements of believability with less hysterics. The ending also seemed to abruptly conclude with no real finality (unless a sequel is in order). Overall, the book read well and contained alot of promise that it couldn't quite fulfill.

He tells it like it is... it makes you stop and think about what's actually happening in our country right now. I hope more Americans wake up before it's too late. I enjoyed this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Good Plot, But Too Much Hysteria July 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The main story isn't all that bad, however the ending will make you keep trying to "turn the page," to find out how everything ends. If the book was written to be the 1st of a two-parter, then it makes sense. Otherwise it's kinda frustrating and unfulfilling at the end.

What really drags the novel down is all the undisguised reference to the current president, describing in great detail dozens of things he's never done. It doesn't border on hysteria, it is hysteria. Skipping over all the italicized accusations can make the read go quicker and won't do anything to detract from the real story. The basic story is reality enough to be plenty scary on its own.

OTOH, if you're into Obama-bashing, you won't want to skip those chapter introducing parts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fiction, but COULD it happen? June 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Likeable main characters with a plot that moves right along. Although this story is fictional, there are many nuggets of truth in it. I know I'll be watching our elected officials and the news more closely now.
