Yeah, they really said that, in print in Chicago.

Anyway if'n you're a fan of the Dunedin sound, and lets tell you what its like. It's do it yourself, jangly guitars, post punk/pop, a bit like Dream Syndicate with hints of the Jam, XTC, Echo & the Bunnymen thrown in for good measure. Think a more psychedelic Roger McGuinn if he'd been born a decade later in Dunedin or Christchurch NZ. Oh and in every band a minimum of one Kiwi gal. What you'd expect from the 1st country to give women the vote, after all.

The defining feature of the Bats though is the jangle, provide by Robert Scott (ex Clean bassist) and Kaye Woodward sharing guitar duties. I think Kaye is the jangly one. Singing terrific songs, in duel harmonies, forever dwelling in the hearts of Scarfies, Cantabs and all lovers of obscure pop tunes. Songs like North by North, Afternoon in Bed, Courage, Boogey Man et al.

And the original line up is still going strong nearly 30 years later??!! This timeless album features songs from all the early EP's and singles and really is the way to get to know the Bats.
