This is my favorite live band. I see them everytime they come to the west coast. Their songs are infectious, so when they come out with new music it is oh so exciting! This album did not disappoint. It has brings the dancy, disco, psychedelic groove that certainly defines !!!. It is reminiscent of all of their prior albums, but infuses all of their incarnations into this one disc. The new vocals are great, curios to see who they'll trot out on tour. Well done boys!

Yes, this was a real letdown. I kind of wonder if its Jim Eno's fault as producer. I say this because if you listen to the early live versions of these songs they have a lot more energy. Like Youtube search for live at the "Echoplex One Boy" and it sounds so much better than the studio version. I don't know why they changed guitar to a bring out a distracting cheezy tone.(it was better off lower and understated) While the intent of having a female singer duet for the song was a cool idea, the style singer they chose just doesn't work well. (singer suggested by Eno) While Nic's not bad in studio version here, his style was certainly better in the original version.

Look up Pitchforks early youtube "chk chk chk "Byron"" video featuring what would be renamed "Even When the Water's Cold". So much more energy in the song. Studio version for some reason has some random girl vocals in the studio thrown in that just doesn't work. Why are we female chorusing what the male character is supposed to be saying in the girl's head? In the Pitchfork interview you can hear them saying they were getting to their roots and the album sounded real promising. Even later performances of this song I've seen are just so lacking in energy vs the early live version.

In the same video you only hear a snippet of Californiyeah in the beginning of the Pitchfork video but it sounds a lot more exciting compared to what they actually ended up doing with the song. It is kind of barebones and boring now. You just start to fall asleep through it. Bring out the excitement of California!!! Some Myth Takes style swells could have really got this track going. Ain't that right?

It's hard to believe but !!! as a band has been going at it for about 15 years now. This is the band's 5th studio album (and the first one since 2010's "Strange Weather, Isn't It?").

"Thr!!!er" (9 tracks; 40 min.) starts with "Even When the Water's Cold", with one of the great opening lines of a album in a long time ("Friends told her she's better off/At the bottom of a river/Than in bed with him", ha!). The next track "Get That Rhythm Right" opens with a rhythm guitar lick that screams LCD Soundsystem (the same for "Except Death", towards the end of the album). At this point the groove is established and this album is a non-stop dancing party. "One Girl/One Boy" recalls the stomping and sly funk sounds from the late 70s/early 80s (think Chic). "Fine Fine Fine" sounds like a 1980s new wave/New Romantic tune, and it works great. "Slyd" is another irresistable stomper, this time a mostly instrumental. Track 8, "Careful", is for me the best track on the album, starting with a phat groove supplemented by a Spanish guitar, and eventually leading to an amazing instrumental outro that reminds me of Kraftwerk, circa "Man Machine", no kidding. The closing track "Station (Meet Me At The)" is an almost rock-sounding tune, and, frankly, a bit out of place with the rest of the album, but no matter.

This is one fantastic album! There really isn't a single weak sone on it, and every time I play this, it makes me feel happy. I've seen !!! only once in concert, back in 2008 at the Langerado Festival in South Florida, when they were touring in support of "Myth Takes". I can only hope they will take to the road in a massive way for "Thr!!!er". This album is the best album of this year, period. "Thr!!!er" is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is good album, not too far away from the last in terms of sound. I never really realized how I missed the bass and funky side of their music. Well worth a listen for !!! fans.
