5.0 out of 5 stars Thrall And Demonsweatlive!!, December 2, 2004
This review is from: Thrall: Demonsweatlive (Audio CD)
This is a great EP. I think it's Glenn Danzig's best material including The Misfits And Samhain (they aren't at all far behind though). It captures Danzig's best songs. If you get any Danzig CD get this one. It's Going Down is a great song. It's heavier Danzig stuff. I like the shouting in the chorus. Violet Fire is great. It's dark and bluesy and just evil. The lyrics are cool. I think Trouble is an Elvis Presley cover, I'm not sure though. Danzig does have an Elvis/Jim Morrison voice. Snakes of Chirst Marks the point from Thrall to Demonsweatlive. I love it. Danzig's voice sounds great alongside metal. Am I Demon on this is killer. I wasn't too impressed by it on the first Danzig CD but this caught my ear. Danzig throws his voice and really makes a standout It's so much faster than the album version. The backing vocals are crazy. Sistanas is Danzig's ballad and damn is it a great Ballad. The instruments sound great and his voice is so dark and great. Mother doesn't sound that much better live. It's not the live version they play on the radio. I think that's on the Black hand side live. And track 90 sumthin' is the studio version of mother. Which is brilliant. This is a must have for me. I can't go too long without hearing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great live EP, August 3, 2007
This review is from: Thrall: Demonsweatlive (Audio CD)
i will never understand why all of danzigs albums dont sound like this. the sound quality is superb and if you listen to any of danzigs other recordings (dating back to the misfits and samhain) you surely know that sound quality never was a priority for him. sound quality is crisp, clear, beautiful the best ever. he was with american recordings at the time which also yeilded his best work danzig 1-4. 7 songs here all fo them great of course mother is here but i love sistinas too. dont pass this up if you love danzig songs like me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Live goodness, September 15, 2004
This review is from: Thrall: Demonsweatlive (Audio CD)
I remember watching Headbangers Ball one night and watching It's Coming Down world premiere. Now my friend Adam was a big Danzig fan aand so I had been played Danzig 3 many times and a few listens of the earlier Danzig material. I think I had just started listening to the Misfits then too, but I can't recall for sure.

Anyway, watched the video and thought it was a cool video and a pretty good song. Turns out they were coming to Cincy OH (1 hr from where I grew up) and Adam and I trekked to the show and had a blast. Sadly saw Danzig 9 months later opening for Metallica on the Binge & Purge tour and he was TERRIBLE!

Anyway, great tunes on this disc, especially the live material, which is the real meat of this disc anyway. You can't always count on good quality for live shows but this live stuff sounds very good with some excellent playing. The video for Mother from this album also made rather heavy rotation on MTV.

For an EP with random studio tracks and a few live songs, it's pretty good. Danzig's voice, naturally, is the highlight. In '93, when this came out, it was at its strongest. The original studio tracks, "It's Coming Down" and "The Violet Fire," are fine Danzig songs that would have sounded good on the second or third album. The Elvis cover, "Trouble," is a fun few minutes, and Danzig has always been dogged by the "Evil Elvis" moniker. Good to see he doesn't shy away from it.

On the live tracks Glenn's vocals sound like Danzig III. They're more harsh than on I and II, not as much of a clean, cool delivery. The band sounds like they do on the albums, except maybe a little louder, as Glenn's vocals on the early albums were way up front in the mix. While I do have better EP's, this is worth having for Danzig fans. And, as I paid a quarter for it (as in 25 cents, plus shipping), I feel like I got my money's worth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Platinum Breakthrough EP, December 21, 2010
This review is from: Thrall: Demonsweatlive (Audio CD)
Along with the debut this is the album that broke Danzig to the mainstream with Mother becoming a Buzz Clip on MTV. This is actually two EPs- Thrall is three new studio tracks and Demonsweatlive a set of four live songs. It's Coming Down and Violet Fire are highlights on Thrall while Sistinas and Mother highlight Demonsweatlive. It's Coming Down is one of the heaviest songs Danzig ever recorded. A true blue chipper of classic Danzig.
