Book Description

May 1, 2008
Something was terribly wrong with the shy, scared little girl. Every day, she came to Haven, Sam Hawke's inner-city youth center. But the former marine couldn't get Flora to open up. So he turned to newspaper reporter Ana Burns, hoping that her skill at asking nosy questions about him and his mission could be put to better use.

Flora quickly captured Ana's heart. As did Sam and his dream of providing a haven for children with nowhere else to go. Ana's questions were soon answered—and worst fears confirmed—about little Flora. And protecting her and the center from a powerful predator would take all their love and faith combined.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, suspensful, captivating!!!, June 27, 2008

This book is a departure from Catherine Palmer's Victorian style, and it is fantastic!! The storyline deals with a reporter assigned to do a story, and how she ends up solving a mystery, saving a little girl, and falling in love. The author shows how sometimes a child knows who is trustworthy better than adults do, and the pitfalls of making assumptions without having all the facts. She also shows how trust, once lost, is not easy to regain, even between good friends. Even with all the struggles the characters face, good does triumph and the guy gets the girl. This is one of Cathy's best books!

4.0 out of 5 stars The one star reviewers are reviewing a different book, November 13, 2009

All the reviewers who rated this book before me and gave it 1 star are actually reviewing the book "THE AFFECTIONATE ADVERSARY", which I found to be pretty boring. In fact all but three of the other reviewers were rating that book. "Thread of Deceit" has a contemporary setting and deals with child abuse. The other book is set in the victorian era.

this book is about a reporter who goes to a community center to report about lead paint. she comes across an abused girl, a boy who lives in the projects, and the director of the center. she becomes friends with them and writes about the lead paint and the members of the coomunity center. the book is contemporay. i have no idea what book the other people are reviewing. i enjoyed the story and it is worth reading.
