I was anxious to get this cd. From the first moment I listened to the samples, I realized I would not be dissapointed. I am a fan of emperor and Peccatum but I have never listened heidi's side project, star of ash. With this album she proved that she is as talented as her husband, and she sings like never before, her voice is amazing. It's hard to describe the music she does, because it doesn't fit in anything we commonly listen, she works a lot with different elements and the final product is AWESOME!!. My favorite track is the one called, "The Snakepit", it is haunting and enigmatic and sounds quite original, for moments it's like watching a haunting scene of a movie. Him and Her is another masterpiece, powerful and misterious. I like the focus her music is taking, it's the sound of a more mature artist who is willing to change and evolve, and is not afraid of experimenting.

It's a good choice if you want to expand your musical tastes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful addition to my collection!, April 5, 2008

Here again, we see how one of the better Norwegian musicians seeks to tread new ground with this latest release by Star of Ash. I know most people have never heard of this band, or those who have just refer to it as the "side project of the wife of the singer from Emperor", but seriously, this cd needs to be heard.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why most people tend to overlook SOA or Peccatum for that fact. This is quality, experimental avant-garde music. And why is it that this album isn't available through Amazon? I just got my copy from an Amazon seller and it seems to have been printed in the states. Candlelight did the same thing with Essensual, by Nebelhexe. It seems all of the good releases never get American distribution.

As to the music in this cd, words really can't describe. A lot of it is very trancy, in almost a soundtrack fashion. It's very ethereal. Garm makes a guest appearance as well, which makes this a must have album in my book. I think it would be worthwhile for anyone who has the previous SOA album, or is a fan of Peccatum, to check this disc out. It would be a worthy addition to anyone's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars If it enters your ears, it doesn't leave ..., March 17, 2008

This is a little gem. The kind of album you love at first listen but that still continues to grow on you further. Crafted around a recurring but discreet theme that follows the thread, the music goes from experimental (Him and Her) to near mainstream pop song (Crossing Over), like a movie score it displays a palette of emotions, evocative images and feelings. The musicianship is also a highlight on this piece of music, very effective bass line, precise guitar work, smooth drumming and lovely piano ... Heidi's voice is soft, sad, sometimes upsetting and sprinkled with humility. Kristoffer's one is warm and soothing. I love all of the tracks on that album, but the instrumental "The Snakepit" is the haunting piece of them all. Truly reminding of a "film noir" soundtrack ...
