This is a memoir about a boy and a girl who met at a station in South Wales early in the second world war, when they were both aged five. The girl was the author, a resident in the local town and the boy was an evacue. These two young people were so irresistibly drawn to each other that they decided they were soulmates - true romantic partners designed for each other eternally. They were also taught by society that they would grow up, find someone to fall in love with and get married. These different views conflicted in their minds, confusing them and causing behaviours that brought them into contention. This is the story of that relationship, from mystical experiences to bitter quarrels - the latter mainly due to awakening sex.
