Popular Blog turns out witty book,

I love reading Threadbared's blog -- and I thoroughly enjoyed the snarky sarcasm in this book. The only reason I didn't rate it a 5 is because there are too many times that the humor is based on the colors in the photo -- only for us the reader -- all of the photos are in black and white.
Hey gals -- when you get ready to write another book (and I certainly hope you will), try to look at the photos in black and white and re-read your original entries. It'll help you weed out the ones that only make sense in color. (or you could publish the book in color -- but that's probably too pricey of an option.)

Absolutely HYSTERICAL!,

All I can say is get this book and settle in for a laugh-per-page quota that is way above the usual.
Anyone who has anything to do with clothing design or related will enjoy this witty and catty little book of knitwear and sewing examples that never should have passed over the printing press to begin with! Written tongue-in-cheek with photos of different eras of fashion, it's a must have for the resource bookshelf, if for no other reason than to remind the clothier that even the best design ideas may need a second review before actually being produced. Mary and Kim take you on a rollercoaster ride of fashion flubs, laughing all the way.

I got this book at the Dollar Tree and it turned out to be SO FREAKIN' FUNNY! I grew up perusing pattern books with my mom at the fabric store and always poked fun at the modeling and some of the fashions. This book is so hilarious because of the insanely bad fashion statements, the strangeness of the modeling shots, and the "stories" they write behind the pictures. Yes, you DO have to have a certain sense of humor to appreciate it - someone who saw the humor in "Waiting for Guffman" or people who have sardonic humor. I keep it in the bathroom to revisit. Hee hee.

Could have been truly funny,

What could have been a humorous look at clothing of the 20th century instead turned into an overly long and completely lame gay joke. They should have done something like actually make the patterns they were showing off and had modern people wear them, do a sort of ugly fashion show or something. Oh well, at least a friend loaned this to me and I didn't actually buy it.

I really enjoyed the Threadbared book! I was a fan of the authors' web site and was so excited to purchase the book. I have it on my coffee table at home and guests always enjoy flipping through it. We can all relate to looking back through old photos laughing at hairstyles and outfits. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to laugh.

Very funny book,

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I laughed until I cried. The pictures are great and the commentary is hilarious. Don't be fooled by the title; you don't need to be into crafts to love this book! It's all about the giggles.

I bought this book without really checking it out, it was only $1 at Dollar Tree. I quickly learned why it was on the shelf at Dollar Tree. It's very sad that two Christian ladies ask us to ignore all the cursing and sexual writings in a book about sewing and crafts. I'm sure their parents cannot be pleased with the results of their Christian upbringing. I thought my older friends who spent their lifetimes sewing and making beautiful things for their friends and families would enjoy reading this book. I will definitely not be able to share this book with them. I'm glad I only spent $1 for this book.

Stitchy McYarnpants does it better,
By abt1950 "abt1950" (usa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Threadbared: Decades of Don'ts from the Sewing and Crafting World (Paperback)
Following in the steps of Stitchy McYarnpants, the authors of "Threadbared" attempt to expose the excesses of craft fashions past. They've put together a book of pictures of home sewing, knitting, and crocheting projects from the 1940s-1980s and accompanied them with snarky commentary. But fashion is a funny thing--it cycles. Designers constantly mine fashion history and revive old styles. Wrenn and Watkins claim to have picked out particularly egregious examples, but if you look carefully at them, many of the designs aren't out of line with current trends. Change the photo styling and the models' hair, and things suddenly look very contemporary. The text may have some value as social commentary, but the humor is too mean-spirited for me.

I was very disappointed by this book. I like to sew, quilt, and do needlework, and I thought that the book would be an intelligent analysis of sewing and craft trends over the years. The book was actually written by people who don't sew or do any crafts, and have a very low opinion of crafting and sewing. The book is intended to be humorous, but the authors' idea of humor is extremely juvenile and full of sexual innuendo. I disliked this book so much that after reading it quickly (this book has very little text) I donated it the same day. I feel that I wasted my money when I bought this book.
