Series Continues Downward Spiral, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Threads Of Magic (Paperback)
Unrest in the kingdom in even greater as harsh times fall upon King Thane's people. But out of the darkness there emerges a glimmer of hope: magic is returning to battle the evil Company of Murderers in their attempt to dethrone Thane and return the Chancellors to power.
Nevian, the Master of Magic is frustrated at this diminished powers and finds himself in need of an apprentice in his failing years; who better than the crippled sweep's boy, Drib, who already proved his courage and ingenuity at the siege of Cawdor?
This book is lousy from beginning to end. My biggest complaint is the lack of action and the lack of surprises. I kept reading hoping something was going to happen.
Other than Nevian, none of the major characters from the original trilogy, make an appearance.
One thing I could never figure out. You have a young great hero in Thane. And he can't even go out and whoop the asses of a band of untrained 13 year olds? I was never able to get it.
This book is fairly hard to find. And I think its sequel the Siege of Candlebane Hall is even rarer. (See my review of Candlebane Hall). Make sure you can find the sequel before you buy this book. The ending will leave you hanging.
I got this book from a bookstore in Scotland in 1998. It was never published in the United States.
