Why?,

Robert Jordan's "The Great Hunt" is a great book, undeniably, and as this book is simply the second half of it, it must be as well. However, I can't see any point in buying this, or its partner (the first half of "The Great Hunt," titled "The Hunt Begins"). Granted that the original book was a bit big and bulky, why buy two books that are merely the halves of one? They will cost significantly more. The pacing and flow of the books cannot help but to be skewed by the division. There is no upside to the deal that I can see. Again, I highly recommend the story; it's an excellent example of Jordan at his best. However, just buy the original, save yourself some money, and enjoy the book in its entirety, the way it was meant to be read.

The Great Hunt (The Wheel of Time, Book 2) is the original second book in the Wheel Of Time series. It is an excellent book, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in an enormous fantasy series.
This book is merely the SECOND HALF of The Great Hunt (The Wheel of Time, Book 2), if you already own The Great Hunt (The Wheel of Time, Book 2) DO NOT buy this book. Why it was ever released is a mystery to me, someone is probably trying to make more money from the series. If you already bought The Hunt Begins: The Great Hunt, Part 1 (The Wheel of Time, Book 2, Part 1), which is the FIRST HALF of The Great Hunt (The Wheel of Time, Book 2), then you should buy this book, otherwise, ignore it.

how much money is enough?,

It's bad enough that what Mr Jordan promised would be ONE final book to end the series was split into three or so we hope; but to see that a few of the original books from the series has been split into two books is preposterous! People are spending more than they should and it is compromising the integrity of the series. It is also a slap in the face to Mr Jordan since he was the one who decided how long each book would be. And finally loyal fans who already own the series to date have now added another three years to their wait to see the end of the series and may have bought some of these split books thinking they are new books. This is the best series I have ever read and hopefully I'll be around to see the end, but not everyone will be so lucky. Do yourself a favor if you are missing any of the books buy the original format even if you have to buy used. In the end no matter how you end up with the series it will be one of the best reads you have ever had, maybe even the best.

If The Great Hunt Was A Chocolate Bar...,

...Would you want all of it, or only half? And would you pay the same price for either choice?
It's true that the splitting of the books is meant to attract a younger audience, but I still don't see how it can really work. Splitting it in two merely makes two halves of a whole. The reading itself is no less difficult, and no less lengthy. I understand that it may make the size seem less... daunting... but making the books two parts instead of one just "doubles" the length of the series. There won't be double the words, pages, or chapters, but there will be double the number of volumes within the series if this is done with all the books. And seeing as the marketing behind this seems to be based on the fact that young adults DO judge books by their covers, well then, these "half" releases just trade the look of a longer book for the look of a longer series. It doesn't seem like it would be worth the investment of the reader OR the publisher. Do the math. Around seven bucks for each of fourteen paperbacks, or about six each for what would end up being around twenty eight paperbacks? Hard choice, I know. Yes, that was sarcasm. That being said, the Wheel of Time books are great. I'm already on my second read through. The first time around I quit reading once I got to the eighth book (The Path of Daggers) because I grew lazy. Plus I was entering high school. With a lot of homework. So now I am again almost done with the seventh (A Crown of Swords), and I can't wait to continue. So, all in all, I'd say The Great Hunt is indeed Great, as are all of the others I've read in the series. Just get The Great Hunt, not this mini-me munchkin of an installment, and I'm sure you'll be happy.

You can't take this as a whole for a Jordan work. It's meant to open up the series to younger kids, not be just half of the Great Hunt. The same goes for all of these shorts.

What can I say about the story.....it's Jordan; the books are definitely worth it for the cover artwork and periodic inserts alone. If you have children you want to turn on to WOT ("piecemeal" epic with artwork is easier to digest), or just a complete the collection, go for it.
Unfortuantely, the whole series is not broken down this way, so you may fel cheated. The same goes for the comic series.
