5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this album! November 15, 2012
By mattC
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I buy a lot of music, and this is the first review I've ever written, so forgive me if my format is unusual. I had to write a review because I love this album! Seriously, I'd like to court this album for about a year before asking for her father's blessing. He would give it, gladly. I would ask for her hand over a fancy dinner, she would be appropriately surprised and gladly agree. It would be a quiet, beautiful ceremony, just family. Our honeymoon would be at Disneyland. We would have 2 children, a boy and a girl. He would become an astronaut, she the president. They would bear us many beautiful grandchildren. We would be faithful to each other our whole lives (old fashioned, I know). We would die of old age, within 10 days of each other. The funeral would be lovely and our ashes scattered over the Pacific. Lovely, beautiful, spectacular, just like this album. Buy it!

I buy a lot of music but have never written a review, when I saw that this only had one review I was was shocked. Since buying Threads, I have listened to it over 50 times and it gets better with each listen. For me, that's the true test of good music. It flows very well as a full album and I found that is the best way to listen to it. But for you kids out there that need a standout hit, check out Wolf, Dead Oaks, Prehistoric, and Thread. However, my favorite songs on the album are But I Do and School Friends. This album is so good from start to finish that it is by far my favorite album of 2012 (at this point it's not even close). Do yourself a huge favor, buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars If Paramore started listening to Mew December 7, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
If Paramore began listening to Mew (e.g. "And the Glass Handed Kites"), and decided to take a big step toward making real ART, it might sound something like this. The songs themselves are great, but what really sets it apart is the overal SOUND of the album. Rather than sticking to a pile of guitars and such, the mix is filled with enough interesting sounds (not the least of which is the singer's phenomenal voice) to keep you guessing, and to make you forget that, at heart, these are pretty much pop songs. The mix shows not only a command of subtlety, but of RESTRAINT, as most often the tried-and-true wall of generic guitar tones is eschewed in favor of good old, forgotten SPACE. One guitar at a time is not uncommon (as is no guitar at all), and most are executed with a great degree of tonal know-how (one exception is "Oh. Hi.", which serves as the musical equivalent of the drawing of a lamp that is simultaneously a drawing of two faces... at 0:14 the sound of the hand sliding across strings is borderline hysterical). A guitarist that knows the value of midrange and knows that more gain does not usually equal harder-hitting! What a concept! Excellent performances all around, and a great group of songs to boot. What's not to love?

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars November 19, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I give this a strong four stars. I just bought this album today and have already listened to it at least three times. "Wolf" and "Separate Rooms" stand out to me, but I enjoy listening to the entire album as a whole. Recommended if you enjoy dreampop/shoegazy stuff. This album appeals to me in a way similar to albums like Bloom by Beach House or Civilian by Wye Oak.

*UPDATE* - After a few more days of nonstop listening, I am declaring this a five-star album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff!! April 21, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really like Now, Now and this album. Some of the songs remind me a little of Stars of Track and Field which is a good thing. The songs are a little dark and sad but in an upbeat way. Glad I added this to my music collection. Give it a try ........ it's good stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars best album of the year November 17, 2012
By Gianna
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is one of those albums where I am never tempted to skip a track and I have probably listened to it through at least 30 times by now. The songs flow seamlessly together. Hands down my favorite album of the year.

Let me admit upfroont that I am a relative newcomer to the Now, Now party, but better late than never. Now, Now is a trio (2 girls, 1 guy) out of Minneapolis. After releasing an EP called "Neighbors" last year, now comes the band's debut album. If you are not familiar with their sound, think Calla-meets-Eisely, however strange a combination that may seem to be, but that is exactly what I was thinking while listening to this album.

"Threads" (12 track; 42 min.) starts off with a short, quasi-instrumental "The Pull" only then to fade into "Prehistoric", a great tune. "Dead Oaks" is about as uptempo as anything on here, albeit short (less than 2 min.). "Oh, Hi" is also pretty hard-charging. The second half of the album starts off with the brooding "Separate Rooms", which then is followed by the title track, bringing a wall of sound that is the best track on here for me. AS we get deeper into the album, the songs now become more reflective, going from somewhat sunny "School Friends", to overcast "Colony", to the album closer, a dreamy "Magnet".

In all, this is quite the debut album. A mood piece, for sure, and I mean that as a compliment. I had the good fortune of seeing Now, Now in concert earlier this month at the Bunbury Music Festival here in Cincinnati, and the trio brought a stunning set, playing many songs from this album. Live it all sounded harder and deeper than on the album. If you have a chance to see this band live, do not miss them. Meanwhile, "Threads" is sure to make my year-end list of best albums of the year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

5.0 out of 5 stars Indie Paramore
I had never heard of Now Now before buying this album for $5. They are really good! They sound sort of like an indier, more low-key version of Paramore. Really cool album.
