Fun Series,
By You Wish (Alexandria, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Three Billy Goats Gruff (Ready to Read) (Hardcover)
I originally bought 3 books from this series - Three Billy Goats Gruff, Gingerbread Fred, and Noah and the Ark - for use in a toddler daycare classroom. I loved them at first sight because the illustrations are fun, they rhyme, and they're inexpensive. They're defnitely worth more than the $3.95 you pay for them! I now read them to my 6-month-old daughter and she loves them too. I obviously haven't tried out the supplemental activities at the end of the books, but I can't wait to put them to use when my daughter is learning how to read! Also, each book has a fun little extra ~ there is a particular object on each page for your child to find. I will definitely be buying more books from this series!

"Who's that walking on my bridge / rewriting this classic?",
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Three Billy Goats Gruff (Night Night, Sleep Tight) (Board book)
Part of what makes a classic fairy tale like the Three Billy Goats Gruff work and appeal to small children is the repetitive language. Think Goldilocks and the Three Bears, an even more popular example of this kind of fairy tale. "Someone's been sitting in my chair!"The authors/editors of this edition took the liberty of rewriting the tale of the Three Billy Goats Gruff into cheesy verse so typical of many "cutsie" board books produced these days. In doing so they threw "trip-trap-trip-trap" and "Who's that walking on my bridge?" right out the window. Sorry, this just won't cut it with the very astute young readers/listeners around my house. |
