5.0 out of 5 stars "Three Bridges" Lead to Brilliance, April 25, 2008
This review is from: Three Bridges (Audio CD)
Jamie Anderson is that rare musical artist that comes along only every so often who should carry the following disclaimer: "guaranteed to entertain." Armed with a keen sense of humor, astuteness, honesty and warmth, Jamie's latest 16-track compilation represents a variety of styles sure to tantalize every taste...poignant verse, humor and candor delivered with a voice that exudes the silky sweetness of her admitted passion for chocolate.

"Three Bridges" carries listeners across a wide chasm of emotions--from the tear-tugging "Beautiful," a touching, yet haunting song about body image, to the playfulness of "When Cats Take Over the World" (self-explanatory!) to the 'sure-can-relate-to-those' feelings following the loss of a relationship in "Too Busy Being Blue."

In just under four-and-a-half minutes, Jamie uncovers a lifetime journey from self-discovery to celebration with "I Don't Know About the Night," a ballad that has captured bragging rights as the "most frequently played" song on this reviewer's iPod.

And, in the toe-tapping "Menstrual Tango," Jamie paints a HUGELY HUMOROUS picture of the monthly trials and tribulations of, well, being a woman. I dare you to listen and NOT laugh so hard your feminine-hygiene product falls out! (We can only hope there's a "Menopause Mambo" in Jamie's future repertoire!);-)

"Three Bridges" is the consummate collection of Jamie's two decades of songwriting and performance. Her musical mastery shines through in a unique ability to bring together diverse audiences with universal stories of life, all while covering a broad spectrum of both serious and light-hearted themes. Through it all, Jamie spreads a rainbow of musical style that is certain to please and leave you begging for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Folk music even my husband appreciates, March 13, 2010
This review is from: Three Bridges (Audio CD)
I first listened to Jamie Anderson by finding her website looking for folk music, then for the holidays that year, my husband got me two of her albums. This was one of them.

It's some of the best folk I've ever heard, and I recommend it to many of my friends.

Too Busy Being Blue is a breakup song that's funny in a bittersweet way, When Cats Take Over the World is my husband's favorite song on the album for how perfectly she writes about cats and it's hilarious. So is I Want to Be a Straight Guy and Menstrual Tango.

Grace is a touchingly sweet song about first love. Her Problem Now is another breakup song.

The songs range from social statement to just very funny. There are tender moments, bitter thoughts, fear, love, and humor on this album, it's a great introduction to Jamie Anderson's music.
