Book Description

January 21, 2008
Leaders make the difference between a good and a bad organization. Within a company, everything gets done—or doesn’t get done— because of the procedures set in place by management. Since leadership is a process based on discipline and skill, mastering the right process guarantees success. But finding that perfect equation is often difficult—until now.

Drawing on his extensive experience as business advisor to successful C.E.O.s, Ra Broaddus outlines the highly effective principles behind good leadership in The Three C.E.O. Checklists. The three components central to good management are C.E.O. disciplines and skills, organizational structure, and operating processes. Broaddus explains key elements of each and how they work together to produce a quality leader. They include:
• Focus
• Credibility
• Communication
• Values and culture
• Planning
• Financial reporting
• Business development
• Human resource management

A must read for anyone in a leadership role, this essential business guide shows you how to implement Broaddus’s practical advice and find the equation that works for you. Take your company—and yourself—to a new and sustainable level of success.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic yet still useful, April 8, 2011

This review is from: The Three C.E.O. Checklists: A Leadership Process that Actually Works (Paperback)
Another title for this 95 page publication might be "CEO Basics" or even the over-used, "CEO for Dummies." Still, in my work with C.E.O.s, I can see myself handing this paperback to leaders of young or small/medium size organizations for a quick read. Don't expect ground-breaking theory in this thin primer. The basic message to any C.E.O, "it really is all about you."

In a no nonsense way, Broaddus firmly puts the responsibility for the good and bad of a company in one pair of hands -- the top leader's. From taking care of one's own health to developing strategic plans to hiring the right people and firing the wrong ones, several responsibilities of good leadership are itemized for easy consumption. I don't endorse all of the author's recommendations (e.g. his time-tested interview questions seem too subjective), and the checklist is certainly not exhaustive, yet, on many counts, I appreciated the simple and succinct articulation of what a C.E.O. can do and be to help a company prosper.
