This review is from: The Three C.E.O. Checklists: A Leadership Process that Actually Works (Paperback)
Another title for this 95 page publication might be "CEO Basics" or even the over-used, "CEO for Dummies." Still, in my work with C.E.O.s, I can see myself handing this paperback to leaders of young or small/medium size organizations for a quick read. Don't expect ground-breaking theory in this thin primer. The basic message to any C.E.O, "it really is all about you."
In a no nonsense way, Broaddus firmly puts the responsibility for the good and bad of a company in one pair of hands -- the top leader's. From taking care of one's own health to developing strategic plans to hiring the right people and firing the wrong ones, several responsibilities of good leadership are itemized for easy consumption. I don't endorse all of the author's recommendations (e.g. his time-tested interview questions seem too subjective), and the checklist is certainly not exhaustive, yet, on many counts, I appreciated the simple and succinct articulation of what a C.E.O. can do and be to help a company prosper. |
