More About the Author

Colleen McCullough was born in Australia. A neuropathologist, she established the department of neurophysiology at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney before working as a researcher and teacher at Yale Medical School for ten years. Her writing career began with the publication of Tim, followed by The Thorn Birds, a record-breaking international bestseller. She lives on Norfolk Island in the South Pacific with her husband, Ric Robinson.

Without a doubt, Colleen McCullough is a marvelous writer who knows her craft. The author often delves deep into her characters, revealing both strength and weaknesses of human nature. I enjoyed all three stories contained in the volume, especially "Tim," which is also an excellent film.

Three Novels by Colleen Mc Cullough is what you could call a McCullough reader. It contains three of her lesser known works, Tim, being one of the earliest and The Ladies of Missalonghi being one of my all time favorites. What are these stories about, like all McCullough's work, they are about people and where life takes them. What makes them worth reading is the author's incredible ability to make a retarded young man's life as interesting as she made Caesar's. McCullough's stories are each uniquely different, but a thread of personal courage winds through all of them. After reading any of her stories, no matter what happens, you are always left with the sense that tomorrow will come and somehow things work out, sometimes there is evil, but never hopelessness. These stories are relatively short and though they are lively, they are not intense, so this book is excellent to keep around for when you want to read something interesting while relaxing.
