Product Description
This Southeast Asian staple is made of salted and fermented anchovies and is used there instead of soy sauce. It is called "nam pla" in Thailand and "nuoc mam" in Vietnam. This is the preferred brand of FoodTV s Ming Tsai.

One of the better Malay fish sauces available ... if you can find it

One of the better asian style fermented fish sauces available here in the USA, although it's hard to find outside of large and populous asian enclaves {in my area for example, the 2 best places to find it are Flushing NY near Shea stadium, and China Town in lower Manhattan}. I've found it's generally fresher and slightly less salty than Tiparos Brand, although it does have a faintly sweet finish (due to tiny addition of fructose). It's one of my favorite go-to condiments for stirfry (perfect in fried rice), soup bases, marinades, etc.
It's tea-colored at peak freshness, but slowly darkens (and loses some of its delicate nuances) over several months, with exposure to heat and oxygen.
Recommended. Inexpensive too, at around $5 USD for 24 fl oz.
Minor packaging nit: I appreciate the fact that this is packaged in glass (which helps keeps it fresher longer), but the attractive and distinctive label stains easily ... the MFR should seal it better, to protect it from unsightly staining.

makes a great umami burger! just use as a pour over marinade. Easy does it! you only want a little for flavor. Grill as usual and enjoy.

I have not been able to purchase fish sauce in my area, so I went to Amazon. This is a seasoning and a little bit goes a long way. It is tasty and can be used with a variety of dishes, not just fish.
