5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing short of miraculous, May 29, 2009
This review is from: Three Cups of Tea (Paperback)
While I might agree with some reviewers that this book may be a bit weak in its mechanics and a little over-the-top with some of the metaphors, I'll also say such issues are easily overcome by the sheer greatness of the story of Greg Mortenson.

Mortenson's story is a must-read for anyone who cares about anything that goes on in this world, which I hope is all of us. To call his story simply "inspiring" does not even begin to do it justice. Mortenson and those who assist him deserve all praises, and then some more. He is a hero to the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars What one person can accomplish, August 6, 2008
This review is from: Three Cups of Tea (Paperback)
Three Cups reads like a novel, which makes it a page turner and easy read. The book drew me in through the adventure of the climb and then the characters. Once hooked, discover an amazing person, with inner strength and will and purpose.

This book is a must read for understanding the everyday people of rural pakistan and afganistan, the good and evil. What can motivate charitable giving, and what one person can do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Cups of Tea, June 2, 2008
This review is from: Three Cups of Tea (Paperback)
The author succinctly decribes Greg Mortenson's true story of adventure and courage. Greg's total focus on the building of schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan could help the U.S. understand how to really help these battered countries in a peaceful and constructive way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable, January 16, 2009
This review is from: Three Cups of Tea (Paperback)
It seems that right now in our country all we talk about is change. But no one really does anything. This man did. And he shows us a glimpse of what we are all truly capable of. I felt that this work opened my eyes to a part of the world vastly misunderstood. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It is inspiring, uplifting, and highly educational. Change is actually possible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bomb them with books to win the war, February 5, 2011
This review is from: Three Cups of Tea (Kindle Edition)
Essential reading for all US citizens. Should be read in high schools. The last few chapters post 9/11 are painfull reading about our western 'bomb em all to hell' attitudes.
The war on terror cannot be won we need to drop books not bombs- build schools not army bases. Not usually my kind of book at all but I kept it in the car as taxi driver for the family but slowly it worked it's magic on me. Please read it and do not fear these foreigners.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an achievement!, September 7, 2011

This review is from: Three Cups of Tea (Kindle Edition)
If only the powers-that-be would realise that putting education in the hands of the poorest of the world's population would overcome terrorism at a trifle of the cost of all the bombs! This book bears testament to that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, July 5, 2011
By
This review is from: Three Cups of Tea (Paperback)
The inspiring story of a compassionate, yet ordinary man who saw that the real obstacles we shall face in the future are want and ignorance.

Regardless of ethnicity, religion, or gender, this book expresses the equality of humankind and reminds us not only that we should pursue the inalienable rights of all but also that the pen is mightier than the sword.
We can all make a difference in our world, if only we had the courage.

5.0 out of 5 stars three cups of Tea, August 4, 2008
This review is from: Three Cups of Tea (Paperback)
As I read this book my first thought is why isn't there more publicity about what he is doing?? It is so simple and in a part of the world where Americans are mistrusted , he has made a difference. If you can read this book and NOT want to do something positive it is surprising. The suggestions at the end of the book include writing a review, so I did.
I recommend it to anyone who is concerned about peace and improving the lot of children in far off nations.

Book was recommended by our local librarian...I wasn't disappointed and sent books to 2 other family members. Incredible insight into other cultures and what is possible by really getting to know other cultures via the people.
