5.0 out of 5 stars Erotic!, February 26, 2006
This review is from: Three Day Passes (Paperback)
Rigger and Rock are lovers. Rigger is a marine medic and Rock is a marine. After being away for a few days Rock brings home a fellow marine hoping he'll want to have some fun with them. Although Dick has never been with a man before he eagerly jumps into Rock and Rigger's erotic play. Dick responds with so much enthusiasm that the three of them spend most of their time off pleasuring each other.

The weekend passes and they are still together. Being three men in a gay relationship is not going to be easy. Adding to that, Rigger, Rock, and Dick live a military life where they are separated for long periods sometimes. But these three remarkable men find a way to make their unique relationship work through many trials.

Sean Michael has written an amazing book with Three Day Passes. Rock, Rigger and Dick are three of the sexiest, raunchiest, most filthy mouthed men I have ever had the pleasure to read about! Their game of truth or dare was hilarious, kinky and totally wild. Their three way kisses had me squirming in my seat and their all consuming lust for each other is mind blowing. Along with their kink and their non-stop banter, they are patient, trusting, and compassionate with each other. I got lost in this book. I was totally drawn in. Three Day Passes is highly erotic and totally engrossing. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Hot stuff that's all fluff!, July 5, 2006
This review is from: Three Day Passes (Paperback)
Okay, if it's great literature you want, then you may be disappointed with this book. However, if you want to read about the burning desires three marines have for each other, then this is your book. Be warned, there is no real story! Occasionally you get a glimpse into the lives of Rigger, Rock and Dick when they are not engaged in a ménage à trois. Some of the best parts of the book are when the characters talk to each other in complete sentences instead of the constant grunts, sighs and moans that they usually utter.

I gave this book three stars because there is something lacking in the way of a plot. There just didn't seem to be a point to the book. The only climax was the sexual gratification each character experienced in pretty much every chapter, and that alone would garner four stars from me if that were the only measure of this book. I was always curious as to what the three marines would engage in next. Some acts had to be researched before I fully understood what they meant. There was also trouble discerning who was doing what to whom. With nearly every pronoun being "he" I had to read carefully to keep up with what was happening.

Rigger was the most likeable character for me because he seemed the most complex and the most sensitive. He is the glue that holds the "story" together. The relationship between his biological family and that of his "assembled" family is a recurring theme.

There is a sort of slow development of Dick's character, such an ironic name for someone in this book! However, I never really saw him other than a third wheel; the "play-thing" Rock had intended him to be in the first place.

Rock is a powerhouse. Picture a seasoned marine and Rock comes to mind. Throughout certain chapters there are softer sides of Rock described, but never enough to quite satisfy my need to really find out who he is. The scenes where he is alone with Rigger are some of the better and more compassionate parts of the book.

Would I recommend this book? Sure, but only as a "fluff" read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sex, no plot, August 23, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Three Day Passes (Paperback)
First in the Jarheads series. I agree with the other reviewer that this book has no actual plot. It is more of a glimpse into the (very explicit) sex lives of three men, two marines and a medic. However, there is potential in their relationship that is explored in the sequel, Tempering.

If you're looking for hot, inventive M/M sex this is the book for you. There is some romance as the characters do love each other, and have a life already established. If you want more to the story, give it a try but be sure to get the sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Know what to expect, and you're less likely to be disappointed, June 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Three Day Passes (Paperback)
JARHEADS SERIES: VOLUME 3 (chronologically), BOOK 1 (written first, as far as I can tell)
Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

Rating: 7/10

PROS:
- 3 endearing, sexy guys with different personalities. Each has specific, unique ways in which to comfort the other two.
- Smokin' hot sex. For the most part, it's emotional and sweet--though in a less obvious, traditional way than in some other m/m books I've read. And for some reason, I didn't find it terribly monotonous, which is an achievement considering that literally every chapter has at least one sex scene.
- Conflicts and plot developments are rushed through--REALLY rushed through--so that the story can return sooner to sex. But because I had read others of Michael's books as well as several reviews of this book in particular, I wasn't expecting much plot, so I was okay with not going into detail about Rig's enforced 6-week (and later, 4 1/2 month) separation from the other two and jumping right back into the story when he gets home. We see a few arguments in fair detail, but really I think the sole reason for Michael's inclusion of them is to make the resultant make-up sex seem better. (see cons below also)

CONS:
- A few things occurred with too little description. In Chapter 1, Rock brings Dick home and they all have sex for hours on end. In the next chapter, Dick is living with them. I would have liked to see a few of the conversations between Rock and Rig (not to mention between the two of them and Dick) that led up to that happening.
- Didn't like that Rock and Rig have apparently been together for years when this book starts and still refer to each other as "f*buddies." That's such a hollow, inadequate term for them.
- Unrealistically horny/virile guys. Four orgasms in as many hours? And that's not an isolated event in this book. But basically, this is porn, so...all right, disbelief (mostly) suspended.

Overall comments: This is erotica, not romance. Don't read this expecting an earth-shattering plot (or a plot of any kind, really) or deep, complicated characters. It's about 3 hot guys and the lots and lots of hot sex they have.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to Have Fun!!, December 5, 2006
This review is from: Three Day Passes (Paperback)
I loved this book. It invites a new player without forgetting the originals, which are the foundation to the group. My fav line is when "Rig" describes "Rock" as his lover and "Pretty" as their lover. The author knows how to write about emotions of three, how they manage to stay connected in the presence of two, keeping it real. That's the hard part with 3. How do "2" manage to love each other without someone being left out. The book is very erotic and the first installment of the three lovers, and maybe the best.
