5.0 out of 5 stars Roy Little Jazz Eldridge at the top of his game, May 4, 2009
By Nikica Gilic (Zagreb, Croatia) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This album (although not too long - some 33 minutes) will satisfy a true swing lover because Roy Little Jazz Eldridge is at the top of his game... Young, strong and swinging like mad!

Hi-fidelity freaks, however, will probably not like this CD; it seems to have been remastered from acetates in various stages of deterioration and the last few tracks are really not in the best possible condition. But, if you have some experience in 20s and 30s music (and don't mind the audio technology of the era), you'll hear plenty of fire from this band; featuring also Zutty Singleton on drums, as well as Scoops Carey and Roy's brother Joe...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Roy, which is really saying something, March 29, 2009
By Jeff Lowenthal (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you have experienced Roy Eldridge only on studio recordings, this CD will be an eye opening experience for you. Previously available on several issues, it remains an exciting CD.

The sound is sometimes marginal, but these were sourced from 78 rpm acetate recordings, hardly a high fidelity medium. But the music! Here's Roy at the peak of his powers, "whistling" chops and all.

I had the pleasure to see Roy on a few of his nights when everything clicked, and he blew the roof off. He still had nights like that, all the way up to medical problems which forced him to stop playing. But on this CD you can hear him when /every/ night was like that.

Buy this, and prepare to be amazed!
