A Tight Professional Group.......,
By
This review is from: Three Dimensional (Audio CD)
both in the playing of the music and in the selection and arrangement of the music. It's pure enjoyment for the listener to hear the bass work of Ray Brown, the interchanges between him and Jeff Hamilton, and the bluesy punch and delicate touch of Gene Harris, one of my favorite pianists over the years."My Romance" and the Ellington medley best exemplfies the trio as a group and as individual soloists. "Paradise" shows the talent of Gene Harris using that feeling of the blues while maintaining a light touch. And who else could take an old tune like "You Are My Sunhine" and give it such a bright sparkling treatment? It was just a coincidence playing this cd at the time the league championships are being played (Go Cardinals!!!) but I've probably never listened to this cut, "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" as attentively as now. What fantastic brush work by Jeff Hamilton! Coltrane's "Eqinox" and "Solitude" in the Ellington medley were also favorites of mine. Any jazz trio fan will appreciate this cd or the many other collaborations of Gene Harris and Ray Brown currently in print.

"a big fan of this group ~ every tune is a gift to you",
This review is from: Three Dimensional (Audio CD)
What more can be printed about Ray Brown bassist who has been around the horn more than once? The West Coast drummer Jeff Hamilton is a real find and fills the chair for this talented group of musicians. But the total power of this trio is Mr. Gene Harris, who if you have not heard him play previously, you my friend are in for a real treat.Harris fills the room with the opening tune "JA-DA" (Bob Carleton), taking command of the situation with hard-pounding-blues, mixed with tempo-rhythmic-jazz and the result is "pure enjoyment" ~ other stand outs "YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE" loaded with blues, "NANCY (WITH THE LAUGHING FACE)" simply a great arrangement, "MY ROMANCE" has Ray shining on this one, and for all you sports-fans "TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME" terrific outing by the whole gang, a home-run is the final result. Why not check out other releases by Ray Brown, Gene Harris and Jeff Hamilton on amazon.com/music ~ if you dig this album look to Concord Jazz for other recordings in the "World of Jazz". Total Time: 61:46 on 11 Tracks ~ Concord Jazz CCD-4520 ~ (1992)

Fabulous Piano Trio Jazz,
By
This review is from: Three Dimensional (Audio CD)
Have to agree with the other reviewers here. For straight ahead piano jazz, it does not get better than the Ray Brown trio with Gene Harris at the helm. No pianist that I know of plays with more swing, more power and more of a sense of down home blues than Harris and with Ray Brown and Jeff Hamilton backing him up, it's sheer piano delight. Check out Ja Da for starters, but it's all so so good. Had the pleasure of seeing this trio live once at the Blue Note in NY and I've never forgotten the power, the swing, the musicality and precision of this group - and Ray Brown's big big grin as he played. You'll see why when you listen.
