Book Description

Mae Turney is searching for the type of life and happiness she has never known but has only dreamed about. She's fortunate enough to find a great opportunity to live in an exterior apartment of a beautiful lake house in a small town in Vermont. When she realizes the apartment and scenery are not the only gorgeous appeal but the home owner, Seth Finn, is as well, she puts it all on the line for the chance at love. When she becomes comfortable and confident in her own skin and sexuality, Mae realizes that this place and this man is exactly what she came looking for. Knowing Seth and his three children are as special as they come, Mae bets the house, and prays she and her gamble are enough.

About the Author

I live in New England with my young family. I'm a lover of fictional romance and enjoy how you can be transported from the here and now to a story, where the characters aren't just strangers but rather friends. Enjoying a book is one of the greatest pleasures in the world.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was ok, but not wonderful September 21, 2013

I won't rehash the story line, since you can read that in the book blurb. I enjoyed the story, especially because it was about adults and not 18-20 year olds. I like reading the new adult genre, but feel that it is taking over the e-book world. Every once and a while, I need to read about people closer to my age! That being said, I didn't love this book. I felt like there were multiple problems with this book. First, the editing. Not only were there many typos that were homophones, not picked up by spell check (i.e., to/too, baring/bearing, etc) but words that were spelled correctly but just not the right word (i.e., loon/look, etc). Several times, I caught where the author must have changed how she wanted a sentence to read, but the original sentence was still there, too. So, you got two versions of the same thought within the same two sentences. That is sloppy editing. You need a better editor, better beta readers, or slow down and really read over your drafts. Second, I felt like the story moved too fast. There was no build up to their chemistry or why they were falling for each other. They met, they argued, and then, all of a sudden, they were sleeping together. This coming from a man, a father, who stated several times that he had never looked to get married again. I have a hard time believing he would want his kids to get close to someone until he was sure that they were going to be together for a while. It didn't fit into the character, in my opinion. Third, and this is something the author may or may not have any control over, I think something happened when it was formatted for the Kindle. There were no spaces to indicated that scenes were switching between POVs or places. I could follow along, but it was annoying. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!! March 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was a breath of fresh air!!! I can't believe how much I enjoyed reading it!! This book held my attention the way that high anticipated sequels hold my attention! I LOVED IT!
I've been reading so many books lately about Young Adults and teenage girls. It was a nice change to read about a WOMAN and a MAN.
Mae is just awesome! Mature, self sufficient, no baggage and she has a career. She moves to Vermont for a change of pace and ends up renting an apartment from a widower named Seth. Seth is the father of two boys and one girl, while he's doing a great job at it... You know there's something missing from this family. Mae fits in perfectly, she's a genuinely kind, gentle, and patient person!
I love their interactions, they waste no time getting straight to the point. Two people who think there could be something more than friendship between them. No games, no waiting... They go for it. What warms my heart even more is their consideration for the kids, they both make a conscious effort to make sure the kids are ok with what's going on.
Seth just warms my heart! He's so damn sweet!..... BUT I KNEW!!! Under all that sweetness making me swoon every other chapter, laid a man capable of pissing me off like no other. AND BOY DID HE PISS ME OFF!!!!
I had to step away from my iPad and breathe, because I wanted inflict bodily harm on that man!!!
After the inevitable angst Mae stood her ground (I won't elaborate because I don't want to spoil it). And I was very proud of her!!!
This book ended perfectly! I felt satisfied and I'm so glad I took the time out the read this book!!!
I can't wait to Read Three of Spades and EVERYTHING else Mrs. Ferraro releases! I'm definitely a fan!

2.0 out of 5 stars Just not for me December 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Originally published at Rookie Romance.

Oh dear. I hate to say it, but this book was such a disappointment for me. I just didn't enjoy it. I liked the very beginning, but it was pretty much downhill from there.

Mae was nice and I liked her for the majority of the book. She's very sweet and lovely, which just translated into her being a pushover towards the end of the book. Events happen, which I won't specify in order to keep this spoiler-free, and she's just kinda spineless about it. It really irritated me.
Seth inspired a mix of different emotion from me. Initially I liked him, he was a good Dad and he was so sweet and doting with Mae. Then the events happen I mentioned previously, and he p*ssed me off majorly. He did a complete 180, and acted like a massive a**hole. Which would be okay because people make mistakes, but then he never really made up for it. Which meant he stayed a massive a**hole in my head, and this completely overshadowed any warm, fuzzy feelings I may have had.

Mae and Seth's relationship moves very quickly. They have a very strong sexual chemistry and it seems to override their common sense entirely. You'd think Seth would be a bit more circumspect about dating because of his young, impressionable kids. Everything about the speed of their relationship had me shaking my head. At first, I enjoyed the love scenes, they were intense, passionate and sweet. But then I just got bored of them, I found myself skimming them because they were copious and too repetitive.

Overall, I found this book very tedious. It took me a while to read it because I just didn't want to anymore, but I was determined! More than once I made a note for my review, saying that it was overly sweet.
