A very nice version of a classic story,
By Rita "Hunna bunna" (NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Three Little Pigs (Paperback)
Having bought other stories in the same series, I got the Three little Pigs in the Keepsake Classic series as well and I am not disappointed. I like the illustrations alot and the fact that the wolf is kinda drawn in a goofy, non-scary way. I think it is a really good version.....the only thing I found odd were the first 2 pages where the 3 pigs go out on their own...there is no explanation exactly what they mean but there is a picture of what looks like their parents saying good bye and waving a hankie ..I am sure this is to explain why exactly these 3 pigs even NEED to make a house each.... but it doesn't really cut it.....My 3 year old asked me WHY they had to go away and leave their Mommy and I said " Cuz they are all grown up"....I don't know - I guess what I am trying to say is that maybe the story line could have explained this alittle better to go with the illustration...saying something about 3 little pigs who grew up to be big and strong and one day decided to make houses all their very own...I know its a kids book but still I found the first 2 pages kinda lame...a couple more sentences would have sufficed to exaplin exactly why all of asudden these three pigs were walking away joyfully from their parents who seem sad and are waving hankies...KWIM?Other then that, I thought it was very nicely done.....

This is a good book if you want the traditional story of the "The Three Little Pigs". Pictures are clear and story has the traditional wording. So, if you want the traditional story, this is the book to purchase.

Nice retelling of a classic with updated illustrations. This rendition tells the story like the original. Often I've found that "modern or updated" versions lose much of things we loved from the "old" stories as children. The illustrations are updated and clever. When the wolf blows down the houses the pigs hold onto the edge of the page. Also, each of the pigs has a little helper. There are little embedded details in the illustrations that are a delight for toddlers to discover. A must have for the toddler library.

The Three Little PIgs,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Three Little Pigs (Paperback)
The book The Three Little Pigs is pretty self explanitory. Its about 3 pigs and there leaving their mom to get homes of their own. But this wolf follows them and tries to get invited into their houses he only wants one thing, but im not gonna tell your gonna have to read it yourself. I think this books teaches a lesson. Dont trust anybody you dont know. I think this book is for older kids between the ages 7 and 8,because little kids MIGHT get scared. I really like this book because its really exciting it s full of adventure, and horror.

This is a nice rendition of a favorite story.
The pictures of the wolf are not so scary. The pigs are also cute. Our two year old would be scared if the characters looked mean or threatening. The wolf even jumps out of the boiling pot and runs away in the end. Very nice.

I bought the book for my little reader, Olivia. We had so much fun with reading the book together. It is not frightening like many of the old fashioned fairy tales are. I am browsing through Amazon.com to see what else Patricia Seibert has written.

I will agree with the reviewer that states it is odd that the first page shows mom waving the pigs away with a hanky. However, I don't have a reader, so I made up my own version. I tell my son the pigs packed a lunch for a long day out playing. They got cold & decided to build some houses.
I really don't want to get into the possibility that they were accepted in college & mommy pig was sad because she was facing an empty nest. Perhaps she was worried about picking up her career where she left off..... Summary: This book does a great job of telling a classic tale in a way that is fun & not scary for small children. The wolf looks silly. Illustrations are very nice. It is my son's current fav |
