5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book to all ESL students, October 8, 1998

This review is from: Three Little Words: A, An, and The (A Foreign Student's Guide to English Articles) (Paperback)
As an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor, I think this book is a godsend. It chronicles all the nuances of article usage beyond count vs. noncount nouns, which cover only some, but not all, of the reasons for articles. After explaining that singular count nouns MUST have articles, students are still stumped on other occasions. For example, some ailments take an article while others don't. Why is that? This book answers that and many more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn by Example!, November 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Three Little Words: A, An, and The (A Foreign Student's Guide to English Articles) (Paperback)
My native language does not contain articles. Articles misallocation is my typical error, even though I have been living in the US for over 10 years. The articles are common sense for the native speakers and a misuse creates an impression of a negligent writer. I was able to go over the whole book in several hours including exercises.

It teaches you by example, which I believe is the best way for quick and dirty solution!

You will notice a significant improvement immediately. Unfortunately, the book got lost and my new job did not require me to write for several years. Here I am buying the book again!

Despite missing fundamentals and simplified examples it helps to identify correct article use 99% of the times.
