Fine Entertainment!!,

This review is from: Three Men and a Baby [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This older film, dating back to 1987, was a sleeper hit and a real favorite when it came out. The cast of Tom Selleck, Steve Gutenberg, and Ted Danson was just fine, and the story line was terrific. Here we see three "professional men" having to deal with the realities of life- a baby- and the predicaments they have to deal with are realistic and not patronizing at all. Then to discover that Danson is the real "Daddy" brings an even greater element to the film.I believe that this had to be one of Selleck's best movies, and the ensemble cast is excellent. A fine family film, and to watch and listen to the trio sing "Goodnight Sweetheart" is worth the price of the movie.

My mom rented this movie for my sister and I. Four thumbs up!!!!! The parts we liked the best were when the baby was crying, when Peter and Michael first saw the baby, and when they were bathing the baby using a turkey baster.

LET ME DISPENSE WITH ALL THESE "GHOST BOY" RUMORS!,
By DANIEL J. ANTIL (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Three Men and a Baby [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First, let me say that this is a wonderful movie, rivalled only by its original French companion, THREE MEN AND A CRADLE (Trois Hommes Et Un Couffin). Having said that, allow me to dispense with all this "ghost boy" nonsense. I learned, from an interview with Leonard Nimoy (the movie's director), that the boy in the window is real -- but he's just the son of a crew member who got into the shot accidentally. Like many faux-pas that end up in the finished product of a movie, this was a mistake the editor didn't catch. The shotgun is just a toy the boy had with him. There are no ghosts in this movie, and it has nothing to do with any murder. Now, let's get on with our lives.

Three Men and a Baby,

Three bachelor friends architect Peter, artist Michael, and actor Jack are sharing an apartment in Manhattan. After Jack goes filming in Turkey his two flatmates find his baby daughter - which Jack doesn't know about - left outside their door. The two are left to look after the baby, and realise how difficult this can be. How would this baby change the life style of these confirmed bachelors. This is a really cute, light hearted comedy. I recommend this movie and everybody should see it, because this movie never gets old.

Comedies don't get much better than this,
This review is from: Three Men and a Baby (DVD)
Tom Selleck is the mature father figure, Ted Danson is the "look at me" actor, Steve Guttenberg is the second string comedian. This trio meets one little bitty girl and their lives are forever changed. If you are looking for a relaxing movie with lots of fun, this is it!

I've never cared much for Tom Selleck though I really enjoyed this movie. I was a bit skeptical at first upon viewing this because I feared it would be a typical chick flick. Yes, women will dig this movie but so should men. Incase you haven't guessed from the title, three men have to care for a baby. The baby, however, isn't theirs though one of the men is unknowingly the father for a short time being. Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg make a great team working together even though the characters they play come off as being irresponsible big kids. Most of the humor in this movie lies with Tom and Steve trying to figure out how to take care of the baby. The humor is also not too over-the-top as is with most film comedies today. I have not seen the original french film that this movie is based off of so I can't make any comparisons regarding the two movies. Still, 3 Men and a Baby is a must see if you like viewing comedies that show people having to deal with semi-realistic and somewhat stressful situations. I also thought the film had a good soundtrack. Who would have thought that a sci-fi fanatic such as Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock) could direct a great comedy? As for the dvd, there are no extra bonus features though the picture and sound quality are exceptional.

Here's a review that actually talks about the film itself,

I'm sick to death of reading review after review of this film and all anybody talks about is the ghost in the curtain. Let me make it clear for all of you who are seriously wondering about it: that was all a big mistake on the part of the production people. It was never meant to be in the film to begin with. O.K.? That having been said, let me get on with the plot summery. The film was pure delight. Three bachlors who never planned on parenting, suddenly have an infant whom one of them fathered dumped into thier care. My favorite scene is when Tom Sellek and Steve Guttenberg are trying to change Mary, (the baby,) for the very first time, and it proves to be much more difficult than ether of them thought. Hysterical! As for the drug sub-plot, I know it's diriveting from the scenes with the baby, but perhaps the film makers were short on ideas and felt that they needed some way to make a full length feature movie, or that the movie needed some excitment and suspence, or perhaps they just wanted to remain faithful to the origonal french film, THREE MEN AND A CRADLE, which also contained a sub-plot involving drug dealers. (And is also well worth seeing.) As for the "pat ending", I liked it just fine. In fact, I wouldn't have preferred that it end any other way! Getting back to the origonal french version, the one I saw was dubbed in english, which for me was a plus, since I've never liked reading subtitles. I don't know how easily available the dubbed version is, but it's still a delight, every bit as much as this film.

A baby lover's must,

In 1987,when Tom Selleck and Ted Danson were on annual hiatus from their respective television shows,Magnum P.I. and Cheers, they filmed with Steve Guttenberg, this lovely comedy about sudden, reluctant babysitting. Just the previous year,Guttenberg filmed "Police Academy 4:Citizens On Patrol",his last sequel. BAD BOY,performed by Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine,is played during the opening credits. The babysitting starts one Sunday morning when Peter Mitchell(Selleck) returns from a jog to his apartment and finds a baby in a bassinet on the floor near the door. He calls his roommate Michael Kellam(Guttenberg),so he could take a look at the beautiful baby girl. Near her is a note from her mother written to the baby's father Jack Holden(Danson). Jack lives with Peter and Michael. Peter goes to the supermarket in his workout apparel to buy some baby food and diapers since the trio had none of their own. So Michael entertains Mary, the baby. After Jack, who's an actor, returns home from Turkey after filming a TV movie,he is strangled by Peter and Michael, mistaking him for a burglar. They are pissed at him for putting them through hell with the baby. Peter tells Jack,"We(himself and Michael) put our lives on hold taking care of this kid and now it's your turn." In another scene where Peter and Michael are shooting pool,Jack is having difficulty changing Mary's diaper("How do you put on these goddamn things anyway?")."Figure it out for yourself,d---head!",Peter answers. Things get back to normal when Mary's mother Sylvia(Nancy Travis) shows up at the trio's apartment to reclaim Mary. Sylvia planned to catch a flight to London, taking Mary with her. That didn't happen, realizing Sylvia would have been sorry eventually. So she returns to the trio's apartment. The trio themselves return to the apartment after they rode a cab to the airport from where Sylvia and Mary were gonna take off. The trio thought Sylvia and Mary had. Sylvia, who's an actress, complains to the trio that her hectic work schedule makes her not care enough for Mary. Peter, who's an architect, told Sylvia that he'd build one or two rooms for Sylvia and Mary, inviting them to the household. Jack told Peter and Michael in an earlier scene that Jack and Sylvia met while acting in a play. In the last scene,Peter,Jack,Sylvia and Michael are all pushing Mary in her stroller, with a long handlebar, accomodating four pairs of hands! This movie was released November 25,1987 and became a #1 blockbuster and remained in many theatres for 4 or 5 months. The success of this film spawned a sequel 3 years later entitled "Three Men and a Little Lady".
