This review is from: Three Messengers For One God: Theology (Hardcover)
Arnaldez, who taught Islamic Studies at the Sorbonne, was himself a believing Christian but spent his life studying Judaism and Islam. In this book he shows his thorough and deep understanding of all three faiths. (Relevant words from the three traditions are cited in the original Hebrew, Greek, and Arabic--always in transliteration.) At every point Arnaldez shows deep appreciation and respect for the two religions he doesn't belong to. His thesis is that although there are significant, irreconcilable differences between the three religions on the level of doctrine, in the area of mysticism (spirituality, the heart) they say much the same things, albeit in different languages and using different vocabulary. This is a scholarly and soul-feeding book that has much to offer to those seeking to build bridges between the three faith communities.
