What an extraordinary gift to have access to the many publications of (very thorough and well-connected) Daniel F. Ford, former Executive Director of the Union of Concerned Scientists.
An economist and writer, specializing in Nuclear Power and, in particular, nuclear safety (or the lack thereof). Ford opens with this Wall Street Journal quote (2-21-80) of Sigvard Eklund, General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency: "The problem of the nuclear-power industry is that we have had too few accidents...It's expensive but that's how you gain experience" So...after several accidents which have surpassed both Hiroshema and Nagasaki in their death tolls and environmental destruction - each new one always worse than the last - are we there yet? Is the power industry happy yet? I don't think you have to burn down a grammar school to figure out how to prevent a fire. Fortunately for Eklund, he's no longer alive. |
