Editorial Reviews

Inspired by the astoundingly popular The Three Tenors series, Broadway director Marion J. Caffey conceived and directed Three Mo' Tenors, bringing greater visibility to the classically trained African American voice. Starring seasoned tenors Roderick Dixon, Thomas Young, and Victor Trent Cook, Three Mo' Tenors is a theatrically staged concert set taped for public television's Great Performances. A companion to the taped show, the disc features just over an hour of live music from it. The phenomenal showmanship of Dixon, Young, and Trent Cook takes shape in the styles of opera, Broadway, blues, jazz, soul, spirituals, and gospel. The three virtuosos hit high C's with clarity and brilliance; scat with grace and grit; belt, bend and hold a note to beat the band. They move the audience to a state of near-ecstasy performing the traditional "Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord)" and Puccini's glorious "Nessum Dorma." Other standouts include the jazz classic "Twisted," a rollicking version of "Today I Sing the Blues," and the salty "Minnie the Moocher." Boisterous, bold, and bountiful, Three Mo' Tenors is a modern classic. --Paige LaGrone

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Mo' Tenors Dazzle, August 6, 2001
By A Customer
After listening to my Three Mo' Tenors CD, I didn't want to waste any time letting the WORLD know about this extraordinary, amazing concert CD. I've long appreciated the Three Tenors...but watch out, move over, stand aside! Three Mo' Tenors rocks! With fabulously polished voices they span 400 years of music paying tribute to African American tenors. From opera, to spirituals, blues, r and b, showtunes, gospel and jazz -- they had me jumping, singing along, crying and feeling oh so good! What a moving concert CD....something all ages would enjoy. If you want a CD you can play morning, noon, night, when you're happy, when your'e blue, when you want to just feel good...then you'll love Three Mo' Tenors in Concert. Check out the rendition of "Twisted" -- one of my all time favorties...and the Ellington Medley, and the opera. Bravo! Three Mo' Tenors in Concert, I predict, will be America's next musical sensation!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, July 25, 2001

Picked this up when looking for something else...an impulse buy. Great impulse! Saw these guys on "My Favorite Broadway-The Love Songs", and although they didn't actually fit into the program, they were great. African-American tenors, Rodrick Dixon, Thomas Young, and Victor Trent Cook are incredible separately and together. Cook has "Smokey Joe's Cafe" on Broadway in his credits. Dixon appeared on Broadway in "Ragtime". Young is a legit operatic tenor. These guys whip back and forth between Broadway numbers "Make Them Hear You" (Ragtime), classic R & B "Midnight Train to Georgia", classic jazz "Let the Good Times Roll" "Minnie the Moocher", and opera "La Donna E Mobile" "Ah! Mes Amis". Incredible sounds from these guys, recorded live at The Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. Pick it up today!

I am enraptured by the gifted and talented Three Mo Tenors. I never tire of playing the CD and watching the program on PBS. Each time is pure joy--I hear something new that delights me. My entire family - 6 years old to 78 years old - loves to listen to the Three Mo' Tenors. There is something for everyone - all kinds of music, all heavenly sung. The orchestra was equally outstanding. Thank you Thomas Young, Roderick Dixon, and Victor Trent Cook. You touched my soul!!!! I can hardly wait until the next CD.
