5.0 out of 5 stars Three Mo' Tenors Dazzle
After listening to my Three Mo' Tenors CD, I didn't want to waste any time letting the WORLD know about this extraordinary, amazing concert CD. I've long appreciated the Three Tenors...but watch out, move over, stand aside! Three Mo' Tenors rocks! With fabulously polished voices they span 400 years of music paying tribute to African American tenors. From opera, to...

3.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this after reading the reviews. I didn't.
This must be a lot more fun for the people who've seen them on TV or in person. It's clear they are fine singers and great entertainers. However, as a newcomer to their work -- just listening to the CD -- I really thought this fell way short of my expectations. Rather than a charming blend of musical styles, I found it a mish-mash. I kept wanting to hear the...

From opera, to spirituals, blues, r and b, showtunes, gospel and jazz -- they had me jumping, singing along, crying and feeling oh so good! What a moving concert CD....something all ages would enjoy. If you want a CD you can play morning, noon, night, when you're happy, when your'e blue, when you want to just feel good...then you'll love Three Mo' Tenors in Concert. Check out the rendition of "Twisted" -- one of my all time favorties...and the Ellington Medley, and the opera. Bravo! Three Mo' Tenors in Concert, I predict, will be America's next musical sensation!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, July 25, 2001

Picked this up when looking for something else...an impulse buy. Great impulse! Saw these guys on "My Favorite Broadway-The Love Songs", and although they didn't actually fit into the program, they were great. African-American tenors, Rodrick Dixon, Thomas Young, and Victor Trent Cook are incredible separately and together. Cook has "Smokey Joe's Cafe" on Broadway in his credits. Dixon appeared on Broadway in "Ragtime". Young is a legit operatic tenor. These guys whip back and forth between Broadway numbers "Make Them Hear You" (Ragtime), classic R & B "Midnight Train to Georgia", classic jazz "Let the Good Times Roll" "Minnie the Moocher", and opera "La Donna E Mobile" "Ah! Mes Amis". Incredible sounds from these guys, recorded live at The Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. Pick it up today!

I am enraptured by the gifted and talented Three Mo Tenors. I never tire of playing the CD and watching the program on PBS. Each time is pure joy--I hear something new that delights me. My entire family - 6 years old to 78 years old - loves to listen to the Three Mo' Tenors. There is something for everyone - all kinds of music, all heavenly sung. The orchestra was equally outstanding. Thank you Thomas Young, Roderick Dixon, and Victor Trent Cook. You touched my soul!!!! I can hardly wait until the next CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Journey, August 5, 2001
This review is from: Three Mo' Tenors (Audio CD)
The African-American tenor is a phenomena unto itself...without going into the social/political ramifications of this within the singing world - particularly the opera world - upon hearing this album, you will recognize the true phenomena that it is... These three tenors - Victor Trent Cook, Rodrick Dixon and Thomas Young embody the truth of music from the soles of their feet through the tops of their heads and out their fingertips! A scope of 400 years is recognized on this album, and the ease in which it is interpreted is second to none. All three tenors have extraordinary credentials and ooze musicality, personality and deftness of allowing each style to color their sound - moving with grace and ease from "La Donna e mobile" through "Twisted" to "America the Beautiful". Each voice is uniquely characterized - Dixon's tender melancholy and textural rhythmic intensity in"Make Them Hear You"; Victor Trent Cook's almost smokey countertenor whine in "The Jazz Cat"; Thomas Young's poignant depth in "Nessun Dorma" that touches the frozen tears in one's soul; This album is recorded live - and colours and bends its way through your mind and your heart...try it! I will bet you won't be the same after experiencing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Mo' CD's, December 6, 2001
This review is from: Three Mo' Tenors (Audio CD)
First let me say that I'm BUYING 3 cd's and 3 video's for family and friends as holiday gifts. These guys are extremely talented vocalist and performers.

I hadn't seen the PBS special so I didn't know very much about them. I was BLOWN away by their voices. There is so much power and emotion in each of their songs/voices. Even if you aren't a fan of classical, gospel, jazz, blues or R&B, you cannot help but be moved by their voices. My 4 year old daughter knows 8 of the 12 tracks on this cd by heart. I think that speaks volumes about their talent. Especially since my daughter had not been exposed to classical, jazz or blues on a regular basis before she heard their cd. This cd has taught her to appreciate music outside of the Barney singalong style. ;-) Thank goodness!!

I want to share their music with all my family and friends because I feel that they are just that good. Plus, their cd has a bit of everything, so regardless of what style of music one likes, 3 Mo Tenors will hit the spot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have, March 26, 2002
This review is from: Three Mo' Tenors (Audio CD)
I returned from hearing The "Three Mo'Tenors" live 2 hours ago. And just finished listening to the CD again. They are that good! One Tenor better than the one before. Live they sang for 2 1/4 hours and I wanted more. Live they perform about 7 more songs than on the CD, and of course all the songs on this CD. Imagine the same three rich Tenor voices crossing seven musical forms and spanning four centuries of music. This is what is on this CD. Put the CD in your player and sit back while these tenors take you on a fantastic, memorable and awe inspiring musical journey through the worlds of opera, Broadway, jazz, blues, soul, spiritual and gospel. You will play this over and over. Do yourself a favor buy the CD (DVD) and go see them live. You will feel the concert. Just wounderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a range of talent!, August 31, 2001
This review is from: Three Mo' Tenors (Audio CD)
Being a fan of many different types of music, I was intrigued when I heard this CD and the three tenors featured therein reviewed on NPR's Morning Edition. I was immediately impressed with the fact that these three men were able to sing such a broad range of musical styles, from Classical Opera to Rock 'n Roll, with equal aplomb and ability. I was particularly impressed with Thomas Young's rendition of Nessun Dorma. This staple of classical music has been so closely associated with Pavarotti, that I was leary of his attempt to sing it in this compilation. All I can say is, "Wow!"
While I continue to have a high degree of appreciation for Domingo, Carreras and Pavarotti, these three young men leave me very optimistic about the future supply of great tenors. This CD is the new favorite of my collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Roof Rasing and Rafter Shaking 101, January 31, 2002
This review is from: Three Mo' Tenors (Audio CD)
Now THIS is what I'm talkin 'bout! Where have these guys been?!? Why haven't I heard of them? I came across this CD an immediately liked the concept. Three black tenors, black men in a musical worle where you don't see many of us. I bought it out of curiosity and out of a desire to support it, and I was 100% glad I did. It's worth buying for the "70's medley" that start's with "Love Train" and ends up with "Midnight Train to Georgia" (though they only sing the Pips' parts) alone, but the stirring "Make Them Hear you," the rollicking rendition of "Let the Good Times Roll" and the wondrous version of Nessun Dorma just make it that much sweeter. If you want to hear the breadth and depth of black American music celebrated by three immensely talented performers, you owe it to yourself to get this CD. There's something here for EVERYONE.

I have this CD and I was at the Hammerstein Ballroom the first night the concert was performed. I have to tell you, it was an incredible evening and this CD is almost like being there. The goose-bumps are real, the tears, the laughter and the audience response are all real. If this one doesn't get you on your feet and moving, you need to have someone check your pulse. UNBELIEVABLE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mo than Magnificent!, January 11, 2004
This review is from: Three Mo' Tenors (Audio CD)
The Three Mo Tenors, comprised of Victor Trent Cook, Roderick Dixon, and Thomas Young, captured my attention in December 2001 when I first saw their PBS performance (VHS/DVD). My mother-in-law brought her VHS copy of their performance with her when she came to visit for Christmas that year and I was mesmerized. In addition to my intense love of music, I come from a musical family and sing and play instruments myself. So the moment I heard the opening notes sung in La Donna e Mobile, I was hooked.

This CD is recorded from the same live performance as the VHS/DVD. The Three Mo Tenors have taken numerous styles of music and encorporated them into a fantastic musical experience like no others could do. The tenors, individually, are all practically flawless, and together, their voices mesh perfectly.

While my favorite of the three is Thomas Young for his tremendous versatility, robust voice, and ability to make it all seem so effortless, they all shine in their own right on this CD.

My favorite tracks are: Twisted (Young), Were You There (Cook), Today I Sing the Blues (all), Nessun Dorma (Young), and Make Them Hear You (Dixon). That said, there is not a single track that I don't adore!

One last note...if you haven't had the pleasure of seeing them perform, you MUST! While the CD is fantastic in and of itself, Three Mo Tenors are best experienced when you can enjoy their entire performance both in sight and sound. Cook is especially good at engaging the audience and his stage presence is simply amazing.

If you enjoy truly gifted vocal talent multiplied by three, this CD is a must buy!
