Book Description

April 7, 2006
Three Modern Painters , a collection of poetry released by SuckerPunch Press in advance of National Poetry Month, veers from the prophetic to the profane in a roller coaster that covers the physical landscape of postmodern America, the emotional terrain of besieged masculinity, and the spiritual plains of Judaism in its 58th century. The three themes are represented by the painters Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock, and Marc Chagall, and are evoked in moving and often surprising tableaus by the author, Gadi Ben-Yehuda.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new voice in American poetry, June 11, 2006
This review is from: Three Modern Painters (Paperback)
Three Modern Painters is one of the most impressive poetic debuts I've read in many years. Gadi Ben-Yehuda possesses a strong, commanding voice and his poetry is at once self-reflective and refreshingly self-assured. My favorite poems in the collection are "The Zombie of Richard the Lion Heart, Remembering Boyhood," in which can be heard allusions to other great poems; and "Psalm of Sixteen Possibilities."

Particularly intriguing is the author interview at the back of the book, which gives the reader unguarded insight into Ben-Yehuda's process and his vision for the future of American poetry. His is a voice we should be listening to.
