A new voice in American poetry,
By a reader of poetry (U.S.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Three Modern Painters (Paperback)
Three Modern Painters is one of the most impressive poetic debuts I've read in many years. Gadi Ben-Yehuda possesses a strong, commanding voice and his poetry is at once self-reflective and refreshingly self-assured. My favorite poems in the collection are "The Zombie of Richard the Lion Heart, Remembering Boyhood," in which can be heard allusions to other great poems; and "Psalm of Sixteen Possibilities."
Particularly intriguing is the author interview at the back of the book, which gives the reader unguarded insight into Ben-Yehuda's process and his vision for the future of American poetry. His is a voice we should be listening to. |
