Biography

With Noisettes, it’s always best to expect the unexpected. Two years on from a debut album awash with punk spirit and scorching blues-rock, the London trio return with Wild Young Hearts, a set of sleek pop songs steeped in soul, dizzy on disco and harking back to the days of blues and jazz greats.
From the stomping electro-rock of Saturday Night and galloping funk grooves of forthcoming, first… Read more in Amazon's Noisettes Store

5.0 out of 5 stars OK, we're hooked....give us more, November 15, 2005

I know, it's only a four song ep.
I know, lots of bands have four good songs.
blah blah blah.
This band is special. Really special. Forget the attempts to describe them by comparing them to other bands (Billie Holliday on PCP? Grace Jones? yeah yeah yeahs?), this band is the real deal and sound like no one else. A perfect blend of punk, soul, and blues, this is great music. More songs please. Please?

Noisettes are a group that really has it all together. They know who they are and they are not afraid to be just that. This little EP is the perfect way to get to know this group. I was first introduced to their album `Wild Young Hearts', which has a much stronger jazz/R&B influence to it. Their earlier work was far more influenced by punk rock, and that `Billie Holliday meets Gwen Stefani' vibe suits them gloriously.

The EP's opening track, `Don't Give Up' (which is also the opening track to their album `What's the Time, Mr. Wolf?') is one of their best offerings, period. It is chaotic and boisterous and aggressive, and at a short running length (2:31) it gets right to the point, and stays there.

`The Count of Monte Christo' (which is also on `What's the Time, Mr. Wolf?') is a completely different song altogether. It's mellower and has an almost folk vibe to the way it is spun. It is soft and sincere and easy to listen to.

RANGE PEOPLE!

`Signs' intrigues me at first but grows a little tired for me before it ends. It is a good song, but it lacks that punch I was expecting. It just needed a little polish, or maybe they decided it wasn't worth it, since it doesn't show up on their album. `Burn' shows the experimental side of the band, and I applaud it for trying, but it does kind of fall apart in execution (although I will say that the breakdown at the end is stunning).

It doesn't shock me that both `Signs' and `Burn' were left off `What's the Time, Mr. Wolf?'.

In the end, pick this up, or better yet, pick up one of their albums (or BOTH!!!). These guys are unique and explosively intriguing. If you are a fan of hip-hop, punk rock, ska, jazz, R&B, gospel, folk and rock then you'll love the way this group blends it all together!

You will not reget it. I love this cd! The drummer, Jamie, is absolutely marvelous. The way this power trio blend their ideas so beautifully while rocking you like no other is amazing. Check this out.
