Book Description

June 22, 2009
When Frank dies in a tragic accident, Angela Machado's world comes crashing down. Not only must she deal with the loss of her husband and pick up the shattered pieces of her life, but she must do so while being heavily pregnant with her third child. Having lived a rather sheltered life, Angela struggles to acquire a sense of normalcy for herself and her three young children. She must face adversity head on and in doing so, she discovers inner strengths that had lain dormant until now. With the backing of her family she learns to cope with the harsh realities of life and face her fears. The bond of deep abiding love she shares with her three young children-Sophie, Zack and Olivia carry her through the tough times. But it is primarily with the unwavering support of three strong willed women - Lynette her mother; Amy her sister; and Amelia her battle hardened mother-in-law; that Angela looks within herself to allow her past to shape her future. Three Pearl Buttons is an emotive story of love, hope and self discovery that chronicles the salient events in the life of a middle class Christian family in a small suburb of Mumbai, India. It is a story that empowers women to new heights. It underscores the human condition and the pivotal role that family plays in a young mother's struggle to survive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Empowering book!, August 16, 2009
This review is from: Three Pearl Buttons (Paperback)
I have read this book twice and enjoyed it thoroughly. It is a wonderful reminder to women everywhere of the amazing strength we all have inside to handle the rocky road of life, both the highs and lows. What I really love is how there are various characters in the book but yet you find something in each one of them that you can relate to, that "I've been there to" moment. I recommend this book to all women and anyone who has any women in their lives, be it mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and so on. For her debut work Beverley Shenoy has done a wonderful job. I look forward to reading her future works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating novel, October 23, 2009
This review is from: Three Pearl Buttons (Paperback)
For three days, I was captivated--beginning with the excellent design of the book cover, right through the woven fabric of the storyline. I set the approval rating to a notch higher -just because she used my name in her novel. I really liked the pace and flow of her story with vivid descriptions, the choice and use of local lingo. Additionally, she managed to brilliantly include both characters and expressions that reveal and typify the flavor of *amchi* Mumbai. Some of her readers may never experience 'that life', so for them, her book is sufficiently informative with a true insight that says it all. For me, her book was a flashback of beautiful memories in print, an affirmation of 'that life', and for a woman who truly understands *tough*!
