Leaving Britain was one thing, but getting away from beer proved impossible. In fact it turns out there are seven countries that make more beer than Britain and - hard though it is to believe - there are at least five countries that drink more beer per-head of the population than we do. What's going on? After a great deal of thought (about 15 seconds), Peter Brown decided the only way to find out was to go on the biggest pub crawl ever. Drinking in more than three hundred bars and pubs in twenty-seven towns in thirteen different countries on four different continents, Pete puts on a stone in weight and does irrecoverable damage to his liver in the pursuit of saloon bar enlightenment. On his way he meets a wild cast of bleary eyed eccentrics and samples legendary local brews in legendary quantities, from Dublin to Tokyo. About the Author

Pete Brown was born in 1968 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. He escaped to university in 1986 to avoid going down the pit (though they were all soon closed, so he needn't have bothered). Since 1991 he has worked in advertising, specializing in marketing beer. He has appeared regularly on television as a beer expert and writes on beer for a variety of publications. He lives in London.

If you've ever sat in a pub with a pint and wondered how people approach their beer drinking in other countries (or how it is brewed, marketed, served, and what food is served with it), you'll enjoy this book! The author combines a healthy dose of British humor with a genuine love of beer to recount his world travels. Warning: I was subject to occasional intense cravings of the beers that Mr. Brown drank around the world while reading.

This is the first review I've written on a book... actually on anything. But, I HAD to write something on this one. It definitely deserved it. This is my new beer bible! This book has a place of honor behind my bar. It is a definite "must read" for anyone even remotely interested in beer, it's history, and the many places around the world where it's served. I couldn't put this book down. You won't be disappointed, I promise! Cheers!

I did not think this book was useful for my research within the UK brewery industry. However, I could not put this book down. It was a quick read and very humorous. As I read through each chapter, I could only imagine how the pub looked and even how the beer tasted. This book makes me want to travel and really see how the different countries have different reactions for the common drink of beer. I particularly like the ad-lib of Anheiser-Busch as well as the description of the rise of the US beer culture. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about the global, cultural history of beer. It's not just for beer drinkers, everyone will enjoy it!
