4.0 out of 5 stars very good, April 18, 2006
This review is from: The Three Sopranos [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Beware! there are two - Three Sopranos- vhs on the market. The first as seen on the image, is the Kultur brand one. Singers are Cotrubas, Scotto, Obraztsova. 60 min. 1991, Syracuse, Italy. The second is a Tibor Rudas presentation, with Cassello, Esperian and Lawrence, Los Angeles,1996, 90 min., PBS sponsored. You will have to ask your seller which is which before bying.

The two are very good but different. On the first, Scotto is very interesting, other singers are good but, heart is missing some times. It is a summer concert. Audience is light hearted and don't seem to be interested some times. The end is cruel because the maestro has to invite Cotrubas to come back on the stage to salute. Timing and organisation lacks. Also on dvd.

On the second, we find three hungry young women who sing beautyfully, pushing too far some times, but the show is wonderful,(see cd for the titles of songs), program is very good, should be edited on dvd. Cassello is at ease, Esperian seems to be very nervous, Lawrence, a bit less. Don't tell me these are second grade singers. They litterally give themselves on stage. Very good, I say.

Don't try to compare with the Three Tenors releases. Take it as it is. Enjoy !
