horrible,

This review is from: Three Stooges - All Time Favorites [VHS] (VHS Tape)
this was truly the worst video i have ever watched. completely amateuristic production, the movie was actually made to be a pilot for a travel series featuring the old stooges, and i think the maker has had trouble selling this as a tv special. please don't buy this truly rotten piece of videotape.

If you ever wanted to know something about the stooges, it is probably on this DVD. Three Stooges: All Time Favorites comes with:1. Family Album: A very informative documentary, including rare photos and never before seen footage. Includes all six stooges: Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp, Joe Besser, and Curly Joe! 2. Jerks of All Trades: The original pilot to the Three Stooges' proposed ABC-TV series, filmed in front of a studio audience on Oct. 12, 1949. 3. Kook's Tour: This rarely seen 1970 film was originally intended to be the pilot episode for a weekly travelogue series featuring Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe. Larry suffered a stroke before shooting was finished, and was unable to continue. It was never broadcast. This is the LAST KNOWN PERFORMANCE of The Three Stooges. 4. The 1998 Three Stooges Convention highlights: Three days of nyuking, woob-woobing, and pie- throwing!!! I highly reccommend this DVD to anyone who has ever had interest in The Three Stooges. It is very cheap, so I'd buy ths before it goes out of print!!!

I ordered this because I thought that it was episodes of the Three Stooges. It turns out it was a movie about the Three Stooges going on a tour of some national parks in America. There's not a single part of it where they hit each other on the head or a single part where Moe calls Larry or Curly a Nincompoop and hits them on the head. I'd recomend one of the old episodes instead of this.

Good video, some rare Stooge stuff!,

This tape has some great Stooge films, some that have been lost for decades. This includes the Stooges' last film ever, KOOK'S TOUR (1970). That was a very interesting movie. The only thing is that there is absolutely no violence here. The most violent thing is when Curly Joe bumps his head on the boat. Interestingly, the same bonk sound from Stooge shorts is still used here. The Three Stooges Family Album was great. It had some never-before-seen home movie footage and publicity shots of hard-to-find Stooge shorts. JERKS OF ALL TRADES (1949) is a gem, with some great scenes of the Stooges as painters. This tape is well worth buying.

This DVD is really good! I was very glad that the lost gem "Kook's Tour" was included here; it was the only Stooges film I hadn't seen, and it was well worth the wait! Anchor Bay did a great job restoring it!The "Family Album" video gives a more intimate glimpse into the lives of the Stooges, with rare home movies, photos and personal memories; the movie breezes along at a rapid pace (I guess they had to move it along when chronicling a nearly 70-year career!) This is a definite must for Stooges fans; you'll enjoy it immensely as I did!

This DVD alone for Kook's Tour is worth the price. The last Stooges film ever, (filmed in color). Some mock Kooks Tour, but it's an enjoyable 60 min movie (originally made for tv but never aired).
This movie has beco9me so rare that the original prints are missing. The makers here made this version from 2 of the best versions they found from old super 8 film. You get a decent watchable movie.

No, these are not The Shorts. Yes, the title of the DVD is misrepresentative. So, you gotta' learn to read! For what it is, it's indispensable.
The little documentary is nicely done, although the facts are not always correct. It presents an idealized version of their life stories (like Larry having such a perfect marriage, which is FAR from true!). Happily, the home-movies included are the best ones I've ever seen by any celebrity! These guys really knew how to use a movie camera, even back in the 20s; most of the time the camera work is rock solid still, and the picture quality is great! You can see Shemp and Moe at youthful ages, which is very interesting. "Jerks of All Trades" gives us a good idea about how their act went over on stage (very messy!!), AND it's COMPLETE! "Kook's Tour" is probably offered in the best reproduction available. I have to agree that it's not really a good film, but it's certainly pleasant enough, and gives us a clear look at the final curtain-call of the Three Stooges, at a time when most of us kids thought they were long-dead! The Three Stooges Convention video is the only waste of time on this DVD.

This DVD contains four programs. The first is a short documentary about the history of the three stooges. Stooge fans will know most of this history, but the home movies of Moe and Shemp with their familes, as well as footage of Curly on his wedding day make it worthwile. The second is highlights of a Stooge convention. I didnt find it all that interesting, though it was fun to see family members of the boys, like Larry and Shemp's grandchildern and Moe and Curlys daughters.
The third program is Jerks of All Trades. Made before a live audience in 1949, it was a pilot for a proposed TV series. It had the boys as interior decarators who brutalize a potential customer, played by Emil Sitka. Somyona Bonniface then calls the boys to come decorate a room in her house, unaware they just brutalized her husband. Of course, the boys make a complete mess of everything. The show never aired, because of a clause in their Columbia contract, forbidding them from doing a series on TV that would compete with their two reel comedies. This was done on Kiniscope, thus picture and sound are not too good. But it is watchable, and interesting to see what a Stooges TV show would have been like. The final program, Kook's Tour, was made in 1969 and was intended to be a pilot for a weekly series showing the retired Stooges traveling around the world. Shot in color, it was filmed in Idaho and Yellowstone National Park. The boys go camping and fishing, and Larry can't catch one fish. Moe says, If you don't catch one you don't eat one. Poor Larry ends up eating corn flakes. Unfourtantely, Larry suffered a serious stroke before filming was completed, and had to retire from the Stooges. Director Normam Maurer extended the show to one hour in hopes of selling it as a TV special, but it never aired. It was sold as a Super 8 film in the late 1970's. It was finally released on VHS, and now DVD. Not a good film, but the Stooges deserve a nice round of applause for at least trying to do something different at such a late time in their careers. Bit of Triva, The woman who smacks Curly Joe with her purse, after he stuffed a piece of litter into it, is Moe Howard's daughter Joan Howard Maurer. This DVD is a must for Stooges fanatics.

ok, this dvd is just fine. it is basically a documentary about the stooges' life and times.
but what i am disappointed with is the publicity of this dvd. it has been advertised as "three stoges - all time favourites"... so probably, you will expect the 'all time favourite' episodes, which is not the case. no where on this dvd is it stated that this is a documentary. only recommended for someone doing a research on the stooges' private lives.

Essential; NOT a budget release!,

This DVD, put out by Anchor Bay, is a collection of three previous VHS's. This has "Family Album", a short documentary, and also has the best picture/sound quality version of "Jerks Of All Trades", and the only version of "Kook's Tour". This is not a budget, but is the "definitive" release, officially approved by Comedy 3(owners of the Three Stooges publishing rights). The picture and sound on the two features may suck, but that is because both were pilots for TV series that never aired, and the pilots never did, either, so both were left in the vaults to rot until recently. "Jerks" was filmed in 1949 with Shemp. "Kook's" was filmed in 1970 with Curly-Joe, and is their last filmed performance. A must-have!
