Book Description

April 19, 2010
The Three Survivors chronicles the fictionalized retelling of one of the most arduous passages in history. After a massive storm in 1832, three men are stranded at sea on their broken ship for over four hundred days and hope for just two things-to survive their ordeal and to find safe passage home to Japan. Left in the middle of the sea with not much else to eat but rice, teenage boys Kenta and Kyu, and their older, spiritually strong helmsman, Iwa, are tossed from one ordeal to the next. As they travel from Japan to Vancouver to "Slave Island" and Macao, the three Japanese sailors battle not only the unpredictable elements, but also their failing spirits, slavery, and their own government officials. Sustained by eating seaweed and shellfish that miraculously adheres to the side of their ship, the three men soon realize that finding their way back home proves to be a more difficult and dangerous journey than any of them ever expected. In this realistic seafaring saga that will engage history fans and adventure buffs alike, three brave sailors will come full circle and face their final fate.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Three Survivors, October 31, 2011
This fictional story is based on the real adventures of three young Japanese men hopelessly lost at sea for many months in the early part of the nineteenth century.
They struggle to survive severe storms, extreme hunger, and mental despair. They experience illness and the death of their comrades on the ship before landing safely on a foreign shore.
The book is well written from the point of view of the three young men who miss their homes and families. Their plight is heightened by the knowledge that even though they may be rescued, in all likelihood they will never be allowed to return to their country. Japan, at this time, wants nothing to do with the outside world.
The story is both exciting and moving and gives an accurate picture of Japanese culture in the 1800s.I believe readers of all ages will enjoy it.

This review is from: The Three Survivors: Adventure Begins With a Giant Storm in 1832 (Paperback)
I know Midori personally. She is a very adventures person. She believes in the happy ever after. She has come a long way with her english and writing from the first time I read her stories. She has a great imagination and determination to do what she feels driven to do. I truly enjoyed her book and know she will continue to write more. I am amazed at the lenght on time these men were gone. Now a days cell phones etc. I dont see how this could ever happen againto someone.I think the book cover is great. Also the appearence of writeris good. She is from Japan. She is a go getter. God Bless her book and her life. Very suspenseful read. Enjoy. Love in Jesus Debra

5.0 out of 5 stars An excelent, adventurous and emotional read!, December 24, 2010
This review is from: The Three Survivors: Adventure Begins With a Giant Storm in 1832 (Paperback)
THE THREE SURVIVORS is full of action, adventure, excitement and emotion. What was supposed to be a short trip across the sea to export Japanese goods ended up being a life adventure for 3 surviving young Japanese sailors. The author is so gifted in drawing the reader into the story with detailed descriptions that touches all the senses. I was taken back in time. I felt the hearts of the people. I could envision the scenery of the sea and the new lands. I experienced the Japanese culture and also the different cultures of the other places in which the sailors lived through. I really felt that I ventured with these men as they bonded like brothers; not knowing what twists and turns that fate would hand them. They endured a long, arduous physical and spiritual jouney as their heart ached for home.

An excellent read!
