The Three Survivors,
By
This review is from: The Three Survivors: Adventure Begins With a Giant Storm in 1832 (Kindle Edition)
This fictional story is based on the real adventures of three young Japanese men hopelessly lost at sea for many months in the early part of the nineteenth century.
They struggle to survive severe storms, extreme hunger, and mental despair. They experience illness and the death of their comrades on the ship before landing safely on a foreign shore. The book is well written from the point of view of the three young men who miss their homes and families. Their plight is heightened by the knowledge that even though they may be rescued, in all likelihood they will never be allowed to return to their country. Japan, at this time, wants nothing to do with the outside world. The story is both exciting and moving and gives an accurate picture of Japanese culture in the 1800s.I believe readers of all ages will enjoy it.

Hanging on,
This review is from: The Three Survivors: Adventure Begins With a Giant Storm in 1832 (Paperback)
I know Midori personally. She is a very adventures person. She believes in the happy ever after. She has come a long way with her english and writing from the first time I read her stories. She has a great imagination and determination to do what she feels driven to do. I truly enjoyed her book and know she will continue to write more. I am amazed at the lenght on time these men were gone. Now a days cell phones etc. I dont see how this could ever happen againto someone.I think the book cover is great. Also the appearence of writeris good. She is from Japan. She is a go getter. God Bless her book and her life. Very suspenseful read. Enjoy. Love in Jesus Debra

This review is from: The Three Survivors: Adventure Begins With a Giant Storm in 1832 (Paperback)
THE THREE SURVIVORS is full of action, adventure, excitement and emotion. What was supposed to be a short trip across the sea to export Japanese goods ended up being a life adventure for 3 surviving young Japanese sailors. The author is so gifted in drawing the reader into the story with detailed descriptions that touches all the senses. I was taken back in time. I felt the hearts of the people. I could envision the scenery of the sea and the new lands. I experienced the Japanese culture and also the different cultures of the other places in which the sailors lived through. I really felt that I ventured with these men as they bonded like brothers; not knowing what twists and turns that fate would hand them. They endured a long, arduous physical and spiritual jouney as their heart ached for home.
An excellent read!

Amazing first book,
This review is from: The Three Survivors: Adventure Begins With a Giant Storm in 1832 (Paperback)
I was surprised by the detailed descriptions of the ships and places. This was like an around the world trip from the Japanese perspective. I would love to see this made into a movie. With it's strong Christian overtone, this would be the kind of movie Mel Gibson would make

A thrilling adventure,

This review is from: The Three Survivors: Adventure Begins With a Giant Storm in 1832 (Hardcover)
This realistic seafaring saga, set during the 1830s and narrated by a teenage boy named Kenta, gripped me from the beginning and never let go. Kenta, Kyu and Iwa brave storms, strife, slavery and spiritual despair as they journey home.
The opening paragraph sets the narrator's voice instantly--that of a inquisitive teenager. There is an intimacy and a connection created from first sentence, the kind perfectly suited for a first-person narrative. When I read, I like to be pulled immediately into a vivid and sustained fictional dream, where I can see and experience the story events as if I am nestled inside the Point of View character's head. The fictional dream is alive and well in The Three Survivors. This historical fiction will feed your mind, heart, and soul, as it takes you on an adventure of a lifetime. |
