Excellent work!, December 31, 2004
This review is from: The Three Pure Land Sutras (Bdk English Tripitaka Translation Series) (Hardcover)
Wow, this thing took three weeks to get to me, but boy, was it worth the wait! Not only are all three of the Pure Land Sutas translated (and not in the silly "English Free" form, a way of paraphrasing instead of translating word-for-word), there is a section on the history and philosophy of Pure Land Buddhism. I suggest you buy "River of Fire, River of Water" to introduce yourself to Pure Land Buddhism before you buy this, and then go for the gusto, man!
Thanks!

I recommend this book because it is the primary source for Shin Buddhism. Unlike the previous reviewer, I can not recommend the books of Unno, as well as Alfred Bloom, as both teach a modernist view that goes against the teachings of the Dharma Masters of the Shin tradition, Shinran and Rennyo. Instead I suggest the Tannisho and the Letters of Rennyo, available from the same publisher, as well as the books by Eiken Kobai Sensei.
