5.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD FANTASY READ, July 30, 2006
This review is from: The Three of Swords: Swords and Deviltry, Swords Against Death, Swords in the Mist (Hardcover)
This particular books is actually three books in one. The books, or stories, follow the adventures of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, now fantasy classics. Leiber is a natural story teller and actually quite a fine writer. I have enjoyed these books for years. There are three further stories to complete this tale, starting with Swords Against Wizardy and then The Swords of Lankhmar and finally Swords and Ice Magic. It does take some time to actually get into this series, but it is well worth the effort. Highly recommend these books.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Master of Sword & Sorcery..., February 7, 2011
This review is from: The Three of Swords: Swords and Deviltry, Swords Against Death, Swords in the Mist (Hardcover)
In the realm of fantastic literature, has there ever been a more charismatic duo of heros as Fafhrd and Grey Mouser?

In the land of Nehwon, a rowdy pair of adventurers make their headquarters in the decadent city of Lankhmar, where they spend their time in ribald drunken brawling at the Silver Eel tavern. Fafhrd is a hulking seven-foot red-bearded northman, Grey Mouser id a sly and slight of build thief and amateur wizard, who prefers the sword to sorcery.

The swashbuckling pair frequently embark on far-ranging quests by land and sea into the weird realms beyond their city, experiencing some rather unusual adventures with a certain bizarre symetry. Along the way, they are each mentored by a pair of alien beings(wizards from an alternate dimensions?)...whose true intentions are never quite clear.

Fritz Leiber, a true master of weird fiction, is one of those legendary authors from a bygone era that included such esteemed coleaugues as R.E. Howard (Conan the Barbarian/Kull the Conqueror), H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and L. Sprague DeCamp.
