4.0 out of 5 stars Charming and educational!, February 11, 2007
I love this book. I look forward to reading it to my grandchild(ren) when they come along. I learned several new facts and that surprised me because I've got a MA in biology. I love learning new stuff about animals. The art is unique and full of life and personality.

Some of the background art is too dark and busy. Maybe on a later printing they can tone them down a bit, or eliminate them altogether since most seem to be enlarged versions of the key paintings for each species. A likely buyer would be a grandparent and sometimes older eyes have trouble making out type against a high-contrast and/or dark background. A few of the terms seem a little advanced for the age of child this is intended for, also, but a knowledgeable adult or one who likes to look things up with their kids can easily help a child learn those, too.

Aside from those minor quibbles, I'd recommend this for anyone who wants to have fun learning about the creatures who share the planet with us by reading with small children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Surprisingly Informational, May 18, 2007
I read this book at one seating and as I was going through reading it it become more of a fun quiz then just a book. I enjoyed it so much I gave it to my 5 year old nephew to read, he enjoyed it so much, he started sprouting other facts he knew about the animals, he learned from his recent trip to the zoo. I would recommend this book for kids and adults. If I can find any fault with the book, its with wanting more.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read for Kids, February 6, 2007
By
I sat down and read this book with my six-year-old daughter, who loves animals. We had a great deal of fun, and she really got into trying to guess which of three animal facts was the true one. So did I, for that matter. This is a brilliant concept, making reading and learning a more interactive and fun process.

"Three Things About Animals" is the debut release from CatsCurious Press, and while I enjoyed it, there were a few things I wish they had done differently. The font was harder for my daughter to read, so I had to read to her instead of letting her practice. And a few of the questions reminded me of the trickier multiple choice tests from school, where the statement is *almost* true, but one detail has been changed to make it false. I think that was a bit frustrating, given how hard my daughter was trying to get the right answers.

But the most important review comes from my daughter. The book held her attention throughout, and when I asked what she thought of the book, she said, "I like it!"
